Hi Friend,
After many weeks of rain, we've had 3 beautiful sunny days in a row here in Massachusetts. #ItFeelsGood
Isometric Contractions
A muscle contraction in which there is no change in range of motion.
e.g.1. flexing your biceps and holding the flex.
e.g.2. low plank
Isometrics or Iso Holds are great for health, body transformation and performance.
Health: think planking, rehabbing weak muscles and balancing on 1-leg.
Body transformation: think flexing your muscles in front of the mirror or holding the end range of motion position of a row and squeezing your back muscles or the bottom of a push up and squeezing your chest muscles.
Performance: maximum isometric contractions in a sprint or jump position against resistance, followed by sprinting or jumping without resistance.
It's so simple to do and easy to add.
Try a 3 or 5 count hold on an exercise in a contracted or muscle shortened position, on the last rep, of your last set of the exercise during your next workout. It's fun and it's good for reducing injury risk, helping your muscles and posture look better and get stronger and enhancing performance.
Hold and squeeze and make it count,
Mike
