MIT just released the first brain scan study of ChatGPT users & the results are...
Terrifying.
In short, AI overuse is destroying your ability to think.
Here are the findings:
1) 83.3% of ChatGPT users couldn't quote from essays they wrote minutes earlier
2) Brain scans revealed that neural connections collapsed from 79 to just 42- a 47% reduction
3) AI overuse reduced the "germane cognitive load" needed for actual learning by 32%.
4) When researchers asked ChatGPT users to write without AI, they performed worse than people who never used AI at all.
In addition to these findings, teachers described AI essays as:
> "Soulless."
> "Empty with regard to content."
> "Close to perfect language while failing to give personal insights."
Which pretty much sums up 95% of social media content.
Now, I'm not saying there's no practical use of AI.
I think it's great for initial drafts, research and looking for new angles.
However, it becomes a problem when you outsource your thinking.
If all you're doing is using prompts to write copy, you're not learning:
> What makes copy successful
> How to write good copy from scratch
> How to think like your audience
Ultimately, you're not building a skill, you're making yourself a replaceable asset.
The scariest part about this study is that these were the results after just 4 months.
Imagine how bad things will be a year from now? 5 years?
Half of these "prompt experts" are going to be mindless zombies without the ability to think for themselves.
Use AI as a tool to build on your skills, don't let it become your only skill.
Have a great week,
