Subject: StrongFirst bodyweight strength aerobics

Bodyweight or calisthenics training has a problem.

Well, two problems. On one side of the training spectrum, bodyweight training focuses on high repetitions. The answer is more and higher reps. On the other end of the spectrum, the training focuses on high-level gymnastic-style movements or skills.

High repetition work doesn’t move the strength needle and can result in injuries due to the volume of work and repetition of the patterns. High-level gymnastic-style movements or skills might move the strength needle, but the leverage and loads are significant enough that they are hard to train for the volume needed without undue stress to the joints and connective tissues.

The answer—StrongFirst bodyweight strength aerobics.

Strength aerobics, a Strong Endurance program, is a style of A+A anti-glycolytic training. (If any of those are confusing, you need the Strong Enduranceexpress online course.) Don’t let the aerobics part of the name fool you—this is strength training with an anti-glycolytic focus.

Listen to Pavel describe the origins of the protocol at an event at the Inosanto Academy:

StrongFirst focuses on strength-based bodyweight skills, and the ATG training approach sets the School of Strength apart from the rest. And the progressions that build to the skills of a one-arm pushup, pistol, and pullup allow almost everyone to enjoy this style of bodyweight training.
