PTSD Awareness Month: Understanding Trauma, Promoting Healing

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to highlight the realities of trauma and the potential for healing. At Spencer Hospital and Clay County Behavioral Health LINC, we are dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. We want our community to know that healing is possible and that no one has to go through it alone.

This message is particularly significant as we reflect on the one-year anniversary of last year's devastating flooding in northwest Iowa. Trauma can manifest in different ways, but its effects are very real, and support is available. We encourage you to start by having a conversation with your primary care provider, who can guide you on your healing journey.

Spencer Hospital Ambulance Team Receives Team GEM Award

As we reach the one-year anniversary of last June’s devastating flood, we are proud to recognize our Spencer Hospital Ambulance Team with the Team GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Award. This honor celebrates their extraordinary service and selflessness during the crisis.

On June 22, 2024, while floodwaters rapidly overtook the community, our EMS team acted swiftly—strategically positioning units on both sides of the river, working nonstop for 72 hours, and providing lifesaving care under unimaginable conditions. Despite personal loss and exhaustion, their courage, compassion, and coordination never faltered.

Their actions exemplified the true spirit of EMS and we thank them for their unwavering dedication to our hospital and our community.
