Introducing Our New Podcast: Spencer Hospital Health Talk

We’re excited to introduce Spencer Hospital Health Talk, a new podcast created for patients and community members to learn more about Spencer Hospital, our clinics, and the services we provide.

Each episode features conversations with staff, physicians, providers, care teams, and other healthcare experts who share insights about their specialties, available services, and how we care for patients close to home. The podcast helps highlight the expertise within our local medical community while making health topics more accessible and approachable.

Episodes will be released regularly on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts with reminders sent out via Facebook - help us spread the word and encourage our community to tune in!

Start the New Year Strong: Building Healthy Habits

Looking to make health a priority this year—even when the weather isn't ideal? This blog focuses on the power of intentional movement and how small, purposeful choices like taking the stairs, getting steps indoors, or staying active at home can add up to big health benefits. Learn how Spencer Hospital's Athletic Enhancement & Adult Fitness Center supports realistic goal-setting, year-round movement, and sustainable habits to help you feel better, move more, and stay motivated all year long.

CAASA purchased the license to Grid Shock, a documentary that exposes the hidden reality of sex trafficking in Iowa. The film features interviews with survivors, law enforcement, buyers, advocates, and politicians in order to explore and expose the overlooked reality of sex trafficking in our state. We will be hosting a screening on February 26th from 6 to 8 PM, followed by a community resource panel. The event will be held at Spencer Hospital in the Maple and Oak Conference Room on the lower level.

An Invisible Threat: Protect Your Home from Radon

Radon is an invisible gas that can build up in homes and increase the risk of lung cancer, especially in local counties where levels are known to be high. During Radon Action Month, Clay County Public Health is encouraging residents to learn why testing every home is important and how easy it is to take action. Read our blog to learn how radon testing can help protect your home and your health.

Cervical Cancer: Early Detection Matters

January is Cervical Cancer Screening Month, and we want to remind women how important preventive care can be. Cervical cancer develops in the cells of the cervix, often caused by long-term infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). The good news is that cervical cancer is highly preventable and treatable when caught early through routine screenings.

Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood

January is National Blood Donor Month, a reminder that blood donations save lives every day in our community. At Spencer Hospital, blood is essential for emergency care, surgeries, childbirth, and cancer treatment, with hundreds of units used each year. Donating blood is safe, simple, and one of the most direct ways to help patients when they need it most.
