“We’re very excited to congratulate Roxanne Warburton, Lindsey Kelleher, Kylee Zinn and Jessica Dirks who are being honored by the Great Iowa Nurses Program,” said Brenda Tiefenthaler, Senior Vice President of Patient Care and Operations at Spencer Hospital. “Each of these nurses are outstanding clinicians, exceptional caregivers, and also serve as leaders and mentors within our organization. I’m so proud of each of them and grateful for their many contributions.”

The program, formerly 100 Great Iowa Nurses, annually honors Iowa nurses for their contributions to the nursing profession. Great Iowa Nurses are chosen on the basis of demonstrated service to patients, leadership, and mentoring or serving as a role model. Below are excerpts from the nominations letters for each outstanding nurse.

Visualizing What's Inside Your Heart

Our hearts. They tick. They skip a beat. They fill with joy, swell with pride and race with happiness. They keep us going each and every day, often without us considering what we need to do to keep them healthy and if they are at risk for a major health incident.

Your heart and vascular systems are complex subjects that deserve comprehensive care. Thankfully, a whole world of heart care is available through Spencer Hospital with the next step in heart and vascular prevention: Planet Heart. Amanda Schany, Director of Spencer Hospital's Imaging Center, discusses the Planet Heart screening process in her latest blog.

Lung Cancer Screenings: Early Detection Saves Lives

Lung cancer is the second most common form of cancer diagnosed in the United States; however, it is by far the leading cause of cancer deaths. Spencer Hospital's Diagnostic Imaging Center is recognized by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center and we participate in an accredited program for the early detection of lung cancer.

Celebrating Perianesthesia Nurses Week in February

We recently celebrated Perianesthesia Nurses Week here at Spencer Hospital - a big thank you to our dedicated crew of perianesthesia nurses that provided passionate care for our patients and families each day in surgical services!

February is Heart Health Month and Spencer Hospital staff are showing their support for the fight against heart disease by wearing red every Friday in the month of February. While you consider what you place on the outside of your body, keep in mind the importance of how you treat the inside. Increase your consumption of healthy veggies and other heart-healthy foods, and treat your heart to some healthy activities.
