Early New Year's Day was quiet in Spencer Hospital's Birth Center; however, experienced obstetric nurses know that typically once the “quiet” word is used, things often change rapidly. So, when Jill Viedenkamp arrived late Sunday afternoon, she was the first to alter the “quiet” atmosphere to a bit more “lively.”

Traditional to Unique Baby Names Chosen in 2022

The year 2022 represented another fun year in Spencer Hospital's Birth Center with around 250 new babies welcomed into the world. Names for these new area residents included Charles, Ezra, Tate, Mila, Teagan, Milo, and more!

Applicants Sought for Healthcare Scholarships & Loan Programs - March 31 Deadline

Applications are now being accepted for the Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship, Adam J. Anderson Scholarship, as well as the Cornwall Loan Program. All programs are designed to help area students pursue healthcare careers. Deadline is March 31, 2023.

As a strength and conditioning coaches, our personal trainers at Spencer Hospital's Athletic Enhancement program are pretty accustom to seeing a packed fitness center in early January, but as the calendar pages turn, we start to see the number of participants wane. How do you create a successful, life-long wellness plan? It starts with one step at a time.

Recognizing the Contributions of the Immortal Henrietta Lacks

Dr. Brian Wilson, OB/Gyn specialist, shares how a young black woman, Henrietta Lacks, died from cervical cancer in 1951 but a sample of her cells survived, multiplied and were invaluable in health research. The discoveries from her cells led to the polio vaccine, gene mapping and IVF treatment, among others, and resulted in her being named the 'mother' of modern medicine. In addition to the compassionate care and services provided by Spencer Hospital's employees, they also give back to their community in numerous ways, including supporting the mission of the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation to enhance healthcare in our region. During Giving Tuesday and the holidays, many co-workers generously donated to the Foundation. Pictured are just a few of those kind donors wearing special "Caring Hands. Giving Hearts." t-shirts.
