April is Alcohol Awareness Month: Let's Talk About It

As we step into spring, it's a fitting time to reflect on our health and well-being, especially when it comes to alcohol use. April marks Alcohol Awareness Month, a national initiative aimed at increasing understanding about the impact of alcohol and encouraging people to take stock of their own drinking habits. For many, drinking is just part of socializing or winding down at the end of the day. But for others, it can become something more serious.

One Year Later: Understanding PTSD and Emotional Recovery After the Flood

Spring is here, and that means we are officially entering our rainy season here in Iowa. As the one-year mark of the major flood in Northwest Iowa nears, this blog explores the lasting emotional impact of the disaster, including PTSD triggers and symptoms. It emphasizes the importance of mental health support, offers coping strategies, and reminds readers that local help is available - you don't have to go through it alone.

Thank You Clay County Public Health!

Earlier in April, we celebrated National Public Health Week. Here are just a few ways that Clay County Public Health made a meaningful impact in 2024:

  • 6,327+ childhood immunizations were given to protect children from preventable diseases.

  • 184 home visits were completed through the Best Care for Better Babies & Children program, supporting families across Clay County.

  • 8 car seats were provided to families in need, helping ensure safer travel for young children.

Public health focuses on prevention, education, and compassion, and these efforts truly make a difference in the lives of local families. Many thanks to Clay County Public Health for everything they do to help keep our community health and safe!
