SITREP:
Federal immigration officers—reportedly from ICE or U.S. Border Patrol—fatally shot a man during an enforcement operation in south Minneapolis's Whittier neighborhood, near 26th Street West and Nicollet Avenue. The 51-year-old Minneapolis resident, believed to be a U.S. citizen, was reportedly armed and resisted arrest, prompting agents to open fire after a physical struggle.
This marks the third such fatal incident in the city this month amid heightened immigration crackdowns. The shooting sparked immediate protests, clashes with law enforcement, and sharp criticism from Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and local officials, who called for calm while an investigation continues into the use of force.
The base protests stem from a surge in ICE operations following the January 7 fatal shooting of activist Renee Good by an ICE agent, and a January 14 incident where a federal officer shot and injured a Venezuelan man after he and others assaulted agents.
