A few words of loving advice during this time

1)We are relational beings - don't isolate - socialize:  Find new ways to do this while honouring social distancing.  Facetime, Zoom Calls, phone calls, we have a drink each Saturday with our neighbours - they sit in their driveway, we sit in ours! Be as social as you can within the rules!

2)Our microbiome needs germs - the best science of the last 10 years shows us that the "disinfect everything" and everything "anti-bacterial" is actually bad for our overall well being.   Bacteria, fungi, and viruses are all part of an ecosystem that makes up our immune system (perhaps 80-90% of it).  Help your body be stronger by getting outside and into nature.  The deeper into nature you go, the better it is for your microbiome. Walk in the woods, dig in the dirt, put your hands in it and breathe in that soil air.  All these natural "bugs" we encounter actually help our microbiome and keep us healthy.  From your sinuses to your colon you need a healthy microbiome.  All mucosal linings and skin can take this in very quickly for you.

3)Make sure you don't interfere with the amazing abilities of your body - fear, refined sugar, stress, bad fats, GMO's, un-natural chemicals - these all interfere with your body's natural abilities and create an inflammatory response.  The more inflamed you are the less likely you are do adapt to the genomic changes that come from encountering a new virus.  New viruses require a response from our body at the genetic level.  We get a genomic update, so to speak.  Viruses themselves aren't bad, in fact by 1 week of life babies have 10 to the exponent of 8 viruses detectable in their system.  Viruses are an information transmitter to connect people to their greater ecosystem.   How you adapt to these viruses is actually based on your personal level of health.  This is why you need to stay healthy - your response to this virus is greatly related to your health status.   Support your body in what it needs and watch your amazing body work for you.

4)Don't borrow from tomorrow's worries.  Allow yourself to enjoy today.  Ask yourself: "If I knew everything was going to be totally fine, how would I be thinking and acting right now?" Then be that way.  Fear is anti-life.   Love and faith is fully alive!

Be blessed and comforted!

GROWCO – Raising the standard of care for women post-partum

By Hannah and Dr Katrina – the Orleans team!

Are you a new mom? Maybe you’re due soon? Did you have a baby a while ago, but are still experiencing feelings of discomfort? GROWCO Ottawa is here for you! 😊

GROWCO is a doctor-led post-partum rehab program rooted in deep healing and supporting new moms- both body & mind. Your GROWCO ambassadors (Dr. Katrina & Hannah) are passionate about raising a new standard of care for women post-partum.
Tissue healing post-partum doesn’t stop at a magic 6-week post injury mark- it can last over a year! Your new role and changes to you body are dynamic, and we are here to support YOU.

Whether you are looking for proper guidance on your core, pelvic floor rehab and return to fitness OR you’re struggling with incontinence while sneezing, diastasis recti or weakness months later, GROWCO can help support you NOW so you do not have added challenges in the future.

Our program is designed to address common weakness in the body that women experience post-partum. It considers diastasis recti (separation in the abdominal muscles), glute strengthening, breathing/ core recruitment and postural alignment.

A typical 60min class includes: breath work, core and pelvic floor rehab, upper and lower body strengthening, postural conditioning, and of course education!

Right now things are operating a little differently as we cannot offer our classes in person. But we still have online options and want to support you any way that we can. Contact Hannah or Dr. Katrina if you have any questions.

You can follow them on Instagram for up to date information about new sessions and post-partum information.

Chiropractic & Pregnancy Webinar
Moms-to-be: You may have been told by friends, midwives, doulas or doctors to see a chiropractor for your pregnancy. Moms often seek out chiropractic for certain pain or discomforts (low back pain, sciatica, symphysis pubic dysfunction and more), or for the overall well being of mom and baby.

Ever wondered what an adjustment looks like in pregnancy? You can see an example near the end. We also go over the most common questions we get.

Enjoy! Please share if you know someone who needs to know this!

Infant massage
Infant Massage is a gentle, rhythmic stroking of your baby's body with your hands. The soothing strokes of your hands stimulate the production of the feel-good hormone oxytocin in both you and your baby. Oxytocin is the hormone that gives you that warm, loving feeling when you hold your baby close or breastfeed.

At birth, touch is the most developed of the five senses, and research suggests that infant massage has huge benefits for babies to grow and thrive. Infant Massage may help strengthen baby’s attachment to you, stay relaxed and not get upset, cry less, and sleep better. It can even help ease tummy troubles and teething pains, as well as boost muscle development.

There’s also a theory that touch and skin-to-skin contact helps stimulate your baby’s brain development. Some benefits for parents include helping moms with postpartum depression and helping dads create a bond with baby.

Want to learn more? You can email us by replying to this newsletter and we’ll send you a step-by-step guide to walk you through the steps of infant massage!
