A while back a friend tried to convince me to try meditation. He said that it would change my life. He said that it would lower my stress, improve my creativity and insight and heal my body from all sorts of illnesses.
I gave it a few attempts but every time I tried to mediate my mind would wander even more. I was often uncomfortable sitting in a position that was hurting my back and was definitely not getting any major insights into my life purpose. I ended up with the conclusion that meditation might be good for some, but it definitely wasn’t for me.
Several years later, I came across this video about the “Ice Man”. Wim Hof, was accomplishing all sorts of incredible world records while exposing himself to cold. He was able to handle harsh physical stress on his body with breathing and meditating. That caught my attention. I tried his breathing method and found it much more engaging. This was the beginning for me.
Practicing Wim Hof for a while then led me to learn about SOMA breathwork. It has a component around cool music that I really like. I also found they had solid scientific explanations behind the Soma breathing and meditation technique. I loved it so much I became an instructor!
Since then, I have taught Soma breathwork to more then 500 people. Up until recently I taught once a week at the Peace Room on Sparks St. So far everyone that tries it loves it, and many have told me they find it healing.
I truly believe that the better we are at managing stress, the healthier we will be. We are often in situations we can’t control. For example: as I am writing this, I am waiting for a flight that is delayed. I know that this delay will effect my connecting flight. Now there’s really nothing I can do about the flight, but I can have more control on how I handle this stress with my breathing. Next to me there’s a guy that keeps on complaining and sighing. I feel like telling him: “Dude relax and try some Soma breathwork”…I didn’t, but you get the idea.
Get good at being resilient in stressful times. The way we get good at anything is by practicing it and that is precisely what we are offering you.
