Medicine Cabinet Makeover

My mindset about health has changed dramatically over the years. Growing up if I had a headache, I would take an advil. If we had a cold we’d take Dimetapp (loved that grape syrup). I honestly never really thought about it - it’s just what my family did. Why suffer through it?

Now our family doesn’t tend to band-aid problems that arise. Sure, we do our best to stay healthy. We eat well, exercise, get adjusted, get acupuncture, take vitamins, sleep and all those good things. But we still get sick sometimes or have pains. Other than doing those mentioned above, we didn’t really have other ways to help. So if I’d get a headache, tummy ache, etc., I’d just deal with it and generally just let it work itself through.

BUT what if something else could help me through these challenges and I could be more comfortable WITHOUT compromising my philosophy of keeping toxins out of my body?

It took a while over the years of hearing about essential oils before I decided to try them. I especially liked that it could help the kids! It’s much harder to tell a kid to “suffer through” than an adult. I am very happy with the results so far and wanted to share with all of you!

Here are a few oils I tried and loved (from doTerra company):
1-Peppermint
A dab on the temple and back of the neck near hairline helps soothe a HEADACHE

2-ZenGest: A blend with anis, ginger, mint, fennel, coriander and more.
When we have a TUMMY ACHE – I put some in a circle around belly button. It is incredible how fast it relieves – within minutes! I also put on Nico’s wrist and he smells it when he gets CAR SICK or on anyone who gets NAUSEOUS.

3-EasyAir: A blend of eucalyptus, mint, tea tree, lemon and more.
Rub it on chest or diffuse in air if we are COUGHING, have SINUS problems or are CONGESTED.

I have come a long way in my philosophy on health. Wherever you coming from not, what can you do next, even just one thing to help you get healthier naturally?

2020: A Year for VISION
By Dr Emilie

This weekend Martin and I spent a full day working on our DREAMS and GOALS. It’s not easy to take the time away from kids and life to do this, but for us it’s a necessity to get our FOCUS and ATTENTION on the right things for our year. It’s also easier as we usually do half the day at Nordik…he he he! We are the only people we see going from rest area to rest area with our journals, Bibles, agendas and books!

First it’s important to look back at 2019, at the goals I had and whether or not I’ve reached them. 2019 was a big year and I didn’t hit all my goals (I never hit all of them). There are many reasons why – I’d say the biggest is that we moved. As many of you know we lived above the downtown clinic for 8 years. It was a major transition to uproot our family to another location – more than I anticipated!

There will always be reasons for some goals not working out….and I’M NOT LETTING THAT GET ME DOWN. The point is to look backwards, learn from that, celebrate if I reached my goal and then look forward. I also make sure that my goals really do line up with my core values in life. If they don’t, then they don’t make the list.

Categories in which I have goals include: Mental/emotional, spiritual, financial, social, physical, family and clinic. I usually put 2-3 goals in each category. I make sure they are specific and measurable, not vague so I can’t actually reach them.

If you want to help me stay accountable – ask me if I’m getting up in the 6am’s. It’s the one with which I need to most help! If I’m not your practitioner, I will put the others on the spot and ask you to ask them one of their goals ☺ In exchange for one of your goals. We’d love to help each other achieve our dreams for 2020!
