Subject: May @ Oaktree! Fertility, pregnancy and post-partum rehab :)

May @ Oaktree :)

Fertility, pregnancy, post-partum care - big topics coming up here!

My husband Martin (who is one of our acupuncturists if you don't know him) always jokes about how many babies he has :) We have 3, but he's helped countless couples conceive in the past 15 years. Since I've always focussed on pregnancy and babies, we're the perfect couple to help those out there. They see Martin, get pregnant (lol), come to me for chiropractic and then we take care of their babies

while they develop and grow. We didn't plan this on purpose - but it works well! Our whole team of practitioners at Oaktree have followed and our clinics can help with all thing related.

Below we have a great article on chiro and pregnancy, info on acupuncture, fertility and pregnancy, some post-partum classes and videos right at the end.

If you're nowhere near the fertility or pregnancy world - pass this on to someone who we may be able to help or save it for later!

Chiropractic, Pregnancy and Post-partum rehab

By Dr Katrina Greer, Orleans Chiropractor

The announcement of a baby on the way is an exciting time for the entire family. It is also one of the most important times for a woman to be receiving chiropractic care. From the moment of conception, your body goes through a series of remarkable changes. Some are easy to spot: a growing belly, changes in posture, and the changes in gait – that characteristic pregnancy “waddle”.

What we cannot see are the millions of different hormonal changes and chemical reactions occurring both in the mother and the developing baby, all of which are controlled and coordinated through the nervous system. Now more than ever, during pregnancy, you need a nervous system that responds and adapts to changing requirements in all parts of your body; therefore, you need a healthy spine!

While some moms seek out chiropractic care due to low back pain, pelvic dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, or other issues that arise during pregnancy, we also want to help mothers become more familiar with the birth process, trust, and understand their bodies. In particular, we educate mothers about normal physiology, neurology, and how chiropractic supports these processes.

As your baby develops, your uterus enlarges to accommodate the rapid growth. So long as the pelvis is in a balanced state, the ligaments connected to the uterus maintain an equalized, supportive suspension for the uterus. If your pelvis is out of balance, these ligaments become torqued, a condition known as intra-uterine constraint. Any compromised position for the baby throughout pregnancy will affect his or her optimal development, as well as your overall comfort.

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy restores balance to your pelvic muscles and ligaments, and therefore leads to safer and easier deliveries for you and your baby. The more ideal your delivery, and the less interventions required, the more ideal your post partum journey and healing will be.

After your delivery, our Chiropractors offer Post Partum Assessments. Getting a 6-week clearance from your OB or midwife is simply not enough. At these assessments we will review your birth story, gain an understanding of you birth method, any ongoing healing, challenges, and goals you have. We will assess your posture, pelvic alignment, breathing patterns, core and pelvic floor. We also encourage baby to come into these assessments so we can discuss any challenges with latching, breast feeding, sleep etc.

Whether you are Pregnant or recently Post Partum, we urge you to come in for an assessment. Our next Perinatal Rehab Program in Orleans, led by. Dr. Katrina, will be starting May 29th!

The program will run for 4 weeks, Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30am, until June 21st. Babies are welcome and the program covers the 4 GrowCo pillars:

-        Breathwork

-        Core & Pelvic Floor Rehab

-        Posture

-        Glute & Whole Body Strengthening

Acupuncture for fertility and pregnancy

By Veronique Savoie, Orleans and Downtown Acupuncturist

Acupuncture and Fertility

Here at Oaktree we have a large focus on Fertility and the benefits Acupuncture can provide. Below are just a few ways that Acupuncture can help.

  1. Balances hormones

  2. Improves blood flow to the reproductive organs

  3. Enhances egg quality by increasing blood supply, oxygen, and nutrients

  4. Improves the quality and thickness of endometrium

  5. Increases embryo implantation rates

  6. Improves sperm vitality

  7. Reduces stress

We do recommend seeing patients at the very minimum for 1 month for any fertility goal, though 3 months and longer (either weekly or bi-weekly) is often what most patients need.

Acupuncture can help improve both the possibility of natural conception or increase IUI and IVF success rates.

Make an appointment today with one of our Acupuncturist to discuss your fertility concerns and goals!
