Subject: June @ Oaktree! BINGO and fitness

June @ Oaktree!

Welcome summer!! With the warmer weather upon us, this is the perfect opportunity to put more emphasis on getting our bodies moving. Whether it's taking your dog for a walk, a run, or taking the bikes out with the kids, being active doesn't have to be complicated so have fun with it.

Often, people think that "working out" has to be in a gym. We have to normalize that MOVING is what we need to support our body's function and healing. Making movement a priority this summer and doing it outside has many benefits.

What are the benefits of working out outside?

  1. Soaking in that Vitamin D

  2. A natural antidepressant

  3. Relieves stress

  4. Fresh air

All you need is 30 minutes a day and your body will thank you. Share with us how you like to move outside.

BINGO!!!!!

If you've been at Oaktree for a while, you'll recognize this!! The last couple years we've been doing BINGO for some extra fun :) This year we are doing "Feel Good BINGO".

Pick up your card at your next visit and have fun feeling good with us! And of course, you can win some prizes! You have all month to work towards it. We'd love if you share your journey with us on social media or just let us know in person what you've been up to!

Acupuncture helping sports injuries!

Perhaps like some of us, you've taken hibernating throughout the winter very seriously. It can be fun to cozy up and read books and watch netflix for a while, and dive into what we call in traditional Chinese medicine - yin season. But now that Spring has sprung, I'm starting to see the parks and paths and fields full of life. People feel the call to get their bodies moving as the longer, warmer days are upon us - or in

traditional Chinese medicine - yang season!

This increase in movement has resulted in people arriving with different aches and pains brought on by a change of activity level. One patient I have been treating for sleep management came for his regular treatment and asked if I can help with his plantar fasciitis. Now that his soccer season has started, he was having some severe pain that caused him to miss a couple games. After a few sessions, he was back on his feet - literally - and able to rejoin his team!

Similarly, a patient I've been seeing to assist with fertility started having shin splints after increasing her walking. During her regular acupuncture sessions, I added some points to increase blood flow to her shins, and the pain reduced significantly.

For myself, I’ve certainly noticed that my hamstrings were extremely tight from starting to run longer distances outside. Of course stretching helps, but tweaking my own acupuncture treatments improved my bodie’s ability to heal and soften faster.

This week specifically, I've seen an increase in patients coming with stiffness from clean up duty - chopping trees, raking, hauling large branches. There is certainly a collective increase in stress throughout the city, and the conversations held at the clinic so far have shown that no one has been unscathed. Even those of us that came out without any damage, have increased stress driving through town with traffic lights out, or simply witnessing the destruction of our beautiful city. Acupuncture is fantastic for calming the nervous system from a fight/flight/freeze response into a state of "rest and digest". Come in for a treatment, and leave with an increased state of calm.

As our city continues to build itself back up, we are happy to be open and able to see you Oaktree!
