Subject: May is fertility and pregnancy month @ Oaktree!

May at Oaktree

In May we have a special focus on fertility and pregnancy at Oaktree. If you follow us on social media, you'll see more content specific to this and of course, if you read on below :) plus, surprise throw back pic at the end!

Chiropractic and acupuncture can help this amazing journey in a few ways and everyone who works at Oaktree loves being a part of it. However, it's important to highlight that it's not always an easy journey for some, especially with fertility challenges. For those going through this, thank you for trusting us in such a stressful time.

I'm also excited to invite you to an interactive essential oil class. I LOVE that oils are safe to use in pregnancy for headaches, heartburn, pain...all kinds of stuff when you should be keeping your body as clean as possible.

And bonus....they are SO great to use with kiddos too. Tummy aches, calming oils for sleep, immune boosting, allergies, bug spray alternative....the list is endless. We are really looking forward to sharing with you! See below for details.

MAY THE FOURTH

I'm sending this out too late to tell you ahead - but it's our first year the we actually planned May the 4th instead of having it creep up on us and wishing we did something!

May the fourth be with you!

Isha's Story

By Dr. Katrina, Orleans Chiropractor

At Oaktree, we have been blessed to serve countless families throughout their journey to becoming parents. As a Perinatal and Pediatric Chiropractor, it brings me joy to support mothers during their pregnancies, and to help them navigate and heal during the post partum period.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy can improve pelvic alignment, reduce muscle and ligament tension, prepare the nervous system for labour and delivery, and decrease the pain many women experience. Correcting spinal subluxation and removing interference in the body can help the baby assume a more optimal position for delivery, and improve labour outcomes for baby and mom alike!

At the beginning of her third trimester, Isha (a patient of Oaktree Orleans) sought chiropractic care to help alleviate significant low back pain and 'sciatica'. Her growing belly had changed the way she walked, caused tension in her hips, and affected her ability to stand or work seated for any period of time. The worst pain she experienced was at night, where the pain going down her leg was making it near impossible to sleep!

We worked on her posture, provided pregnancy specific stretches and mobility exercises, and after just a few adjustments, her pain was only half of what it was. At her first progress exam, not only was her pain almost unnoticeable, she had significantly more energy and her mood had improved! She actually told me that her friends had noticed something different about her. She reported that the only thing she had added: regular chiropractic care!

Isha wrote, "I started seeing Dr Katrina at Oaktree in the beginning of my last trimester for chiropractic care. She helped me tremendously with all the pains and aches that come with pregnancy and more!"

Past her due date, she even tried Acupuncture with Veronique for the first time to help with induction. She wrote, "I didn't go into labour (for other medical reasons) but it helped me relax and calm my mind. Overall, going to Oaktree made my last trimester so much easier, less stressful and actually enjoyable".

If you are currently pregnant or know someone close to you who is experiencing aches and pains as a result of pregnancy or simply 'being a mom', please know that these profound life transitions and experiences are not grounds for living with pain and dysfunction! At Oaktree, we can help you heal. And the best part, we love doing it 🙂

Acupuncture, fertility and pregnancy

By Martin, Downtown Acupuncturist

Emilie and I have a joke, that I have made lots of babies over the years that aren’t hers.  I don’t think many people can say this, but it’s true!!  I have assisted countless women and couples with their struggle with infertility. We have been blessed to have seen lots of births and we know that acupuncture played an integral part of that.

How does acupuncture help with infertility?
Acupuncture has the ability to help regulate hormones which helps with more regular menstrual cycles, better ovulations, follicular development and uterine lining issues.

As an acupuncturist, we can select specific acupuncture points that will generate more blood flow to the ovaries.  Increased blood supply to the ovaries improves the egg quality.  In addition, the treatments have the ability to auto-regulate the nervous system which helps come out of fight or flight easier.

I have personally found that we have had great results in "unexplained infertility".  When you have run all sorts of test and nobody can give you an explanation for why you can't conceive, this is somehow when acupuncture shines.  As an acupuncturist, we’ll look an infertility slightly differently than a western doctors and I believe that by observing things slightly differently that allows us to have a different outcomes.

Acupuncture's role in pregnancy
Once a woman is pregnant, acupuncture still remains a very important treatment to help with energy levels, nausea, swelling, aches and pains due to changes that pregnancy brings.  It can even eventually help with the induction process if needed at the end, or with breech babies and encouraging optimal positioning.

If you are struggling with infertility or you are having difficulties with your pregnancy, you should consider acupuncture for a natural approach.  It’s important to speak to an acupuncturist that has done additional training in this field.  At Oaktree, all of our acupuncturists have made fertility and pregnancy a focus in their practice and you can be sure to receive qualified treatments.  We believe it is truly a privilege to help you in this most special time.

Little bonus: Emilie and I expecting our first son 11 years ago!
