'Fall' into the new season with Oaktree

Autumn News - -

COVID updates, hormone management, and more!

Hi Friend,

Martin and I are entering our 13th year of practice. Wow....how are we old enough for that? Last month Oaktree turned 9 years old - same age as our eldest son Ori (we opened the downtown clinic 2 weeks after he was born). Oaktree Orleans opened 3 years ago and we are working hard at finding a location in the west end!

It has been wonderful and humbling to grow alongside you all. Thank you to you, our patients, who choose to come to see us and strive to be the healthiest version of themselves. Cheers to 9 years!

Let's talk about Hormones!

Hormones and Acupuncture - Managing your cycle naturally

By Dr. Marie-Pier - downtown chiropractor

My story is one often told by young women: from the moment I started my period as a pre-teen it meant pain, cramping, and unpredictability. After dealing with it for a few years, I did what most do: I went to the doctor who prescribed me with birth control pills. That regulated my cycle and decreased my pain and cramping, but what I didn’t know is that it came at a price.

Most people know that birth control pills can increase your risk of stroke. It can also increase the risk of other cardiovascular side effects, including heart attack and blood clots and even increase your risk of getting certain cancers.

Long-term use of the pill can also deplete crucial vitamins and minerals from your body ultimately affecting your mood, creating fatigue, and increasing headaches.

While birth control pills have their place, I wanted to manage my health without the use of external hormones. With Martin and Dr. Emilie’s help and guidance, I went off birth control pills. With weekly chiropractic and acupuncture sessions, I had taken back control of my body. I barely get any cramping or pain, and my cycle is completely regular now (which I never thought it would be possible!).

If you’re on birth control and looking for another option, ask us how we can help you on your journey to better health!

Hormones are complicated to understand. We know it!

They are basically messengers that talk to your body and tell certain organs what to do.

Some hormonal changes, like those in puberty, pregnancy or menopause, are normal.

Imbalances can happen if the hormones are receiving incomplete or faulty nerve signals that cause them to malfunction. We've seen many hormonal imbalances clear up once the nervous system is clear. Get yours checked today!

Chiropractic in the woods?

Last month I had the amazing opportunity to enjoy one last camping trip before the summer was officially over.

On that trip, my friend and I decided to go on a hike. After we returned to our base camp, she mentioned she had a sore leg. I was able to show her a few stretches to help her, as well as adjust her fibula (a bone in your leg). She was able to enjoy the rest of the weekend without pain!

I love being able to share my knowledge and expertise on the human body wherever I go!

Our wall of thankfulness!

Here are some close ups of our 'wall of thankfulness'. Thank you all for participating! We have been so encouraged by all of your “grateful leaves”. You never cease to inspire us!

Little initiatives like this always brighten our days. If you ever think of something fun that we can do at Oaktree don't hesitate to share it with us!

Oaktree COVID update:

We are hearing more stress about COVID this past month. We would like to update you on all our safety and cleaning protocols again - to keep you at ease. Also, from talking to a chiropractic patient, we realized we may not have explained how acupuncture is set up since we reopened in June.

Here goes:
Everyone entering the building (minus little ones) must wear a mask unless they have an exemption, including our team and practitioners. We have hand sanitizer at the entrance should you wish to use it. Every patient must sign the COVID pre-screen at reception (pens are cleaned for each person). Reception and waiting chairs are distanced. Appointments are scheduled to maintain distancing between patients. We ask that anyone with potential COVID symptoms stay home, as per Public Health guidelines.

Acupuncture used to have a mix of community rooms and private rooms, depending on the person's needs. Due to wanting to distance and keep everyone safe, every room is now a private room (unless you are having acupuncture with your partner in the same room).
For both chiropractic and acupuncture, all acupuncture table sheets, acupuncture chairs, and chiropractic tables are thoroughly cleaned between each patient.

If you have any questions, please reach out. We want you to feel safe in our environment. We also want you to stay healthy, and we know coming in for your care is a big part of that.
