- 3 percent make it to the third year
I was what some would call drunk on big dreams and unreachable aspirations. Nine years later we celebrate year IX!! I remember when I first started GardnerGlobal, Inc. in 2009, it was the height of the recession, I was just laid off and folks were in disbelief that I started a real estate company at a time when the market was at it's lowest. I took the little money I had saved and put that into a website, business cards and breakfast and lunch meetings. COFFEE, lots of COFFEE!
My first three years of business I was a law student -
I had a business plan written (I still have all 26 revisions) and it came down to execution. I didn't read a "how to" book. I didn't study business or entrepreneurship (on the contrary, I was an English major and a law student) - I just went out and busted my ass. First order or business was to meet the "who's who" and people I considered the best of the best in the real estate development game and business. Thankfully to this day, those same folks I met in 2009 and 2010 have been friends and mentors all along the way.
I started my business out of a 311sf condo in the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle. March 2009 the mission was to build wealth for ourselves and our community. Nine years later, our mission is to build wealth for ourselves and our community and we will not stop until we cross the finish line.
To all of you aspiring entrepreneurs, keep going. Don't stop! It's going seem like forever. You'll want to experience success soon. You'll get frustrated. You'll be tempted to take short cuts. Don't! Do it right. Take the long way. Master your craft. And above all, have fun every single day!
