Ask Me Anything!

In a past writing panel (with Brandon Sanderson and Michael Stackpole), you said that you organize your chapters all beforehand and then write them in one go (like a Samurai doing calligraphy). Can you elaborate a bit more in detail on that process for us aspiring writers?

Before I go into a scene I have to know what's at stake for everyone involved, what the conflict between them will be, and what the resolution to that conflict will look like (that's the skeleton). Then I have to go through and think of how each character is reacting to it and give them a moment to show who they are by how they respond to what's going on. Then I have to go through and think of the overall theme of the book and how that ties in. Then I have to interweave all those, and then I can write it.

Hi Jim, is it possible for Harry go to Alera as a side story?

Technically, yes. Somewhere in the Never Never there is someplace like Alera.

There is significant interest at the moment. Money has changed hands, so it's looking good. Nothing certain yet, but it looks good. As soon as we know something, you'll be the first to know!
