Promoting Yorkshire Authors is looking to run a 1-week pop-up bookstore in Harrogate, probably in the summer / early autumn, but they would need to book the space soon. The location is excellent, in the central shopping area near the bus stop and across from a cafe. It's also all on the ground floor.

Edwin Rydberg suggested that PYA investigate using the Pop-up shop that's appearing in Harrogate this year - see details here and their Instagram page (or @HarrogatePopup if you're using the Instagram App). The shop is hired by the week.

The PYA Committee is generally supportive of the idea on condition that we cover our costs (£400 plus VAT = £480 for the shop but excludes publicity costs and insurance).

I would like to gauge interest before we commit to a week sometime in the summer or early autumn. Our post on Facebook has so far suggested that there isn't enough interest to justify the expenditure. We'd need a large volume of books to fill the space to make this work.

We'd see it working like this:

We'll display lots of books for sale - as many as we can from our membership and there will be a charge to display your books
We're looking for volunteers during the week to do a full or half day shift in the shop to sell books on behalf of PYA members. There'll be a reduced charge for these volunteers to display and sell their books. We see the shop being manned by at least two people at all times during the week.
We'll organise the books into Children's, YA and Adult and then by genre.
Participating members will be responsible for dropping off their books on a Monday and collecting them the following Sunday.

SO - If you'd be interested in participating please let us know by replying to this e-mail (yorkshire.author.promotions@gmail.com) and tell us how much you'd be prepared to pay. If you can volunteer for a shift please also let us know.

We'll make a decision soon about the viability of this initiative.

So, if we can interest 25 authors, the cost will be approximately £20 each, for the entire week. And if we get more, even lower!

It's an incredible selling experience, especially if we manage to interest 50-100 authors.

If you'd like to participate but aren't local I will volunteer my place as somewhere you could drop your books and pick them up from on the weekends so you don't have to rush in on the Monday morning.
