Update: FREE Geoff Thompson e-book, Iain off to Canada, and Iain gets his pink belt!

Hi All,

Elephant and the TwigJust a quick update on a few things following the main newsletter sent out last week. The first thing to let you know about is that you can now download Geoff Thompson’s great book “The Elephant and the Twig” for FREE!

Geoff emailed me so you could be one of the first to know about this. The “Elephant and the Twig” is one of my favourite books and it provided much motivation when I was taking the big step from electrician to fulltime martial artist. Check out section 1 for details of how you can get the book and join Geoff’s newsletter (also very good).

Mike Liptrot and I have been graded to pink belt (see section 3)! If you’d like to get your pink belt too, and support a worthwhile cause, please have a look at section 3 and you could get hold of a very usual piece of martial memorabilia!
This update also has details of some upcoming seminars (note venue change for the Swindon seminar). And speaking of seminars …..

As of tomorrow, I’m off to Canada for the best part of two weeks! This will be my third trip to Canada and they are always great fun! I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again, meeting new people, and swapping ideas on bunkai and applied karate!

While I’m away, all the orders will be processed by Helen as quickly as usual, the forum will still be open (I hope to drop in a few times when I'm near a PC), and Helen will be manning the office.

The only difference will be that I won't be here to answer all the emails sent to me personally. I love receiving emails and the success of the website means I receive a great deal. It normally takes me around 3 hours a day to reply to them all, and this obviously means quite a few will build up while I'm away. So many in fact, that there will be no chance of me catching up if I were to let them build up. I'd therefore be most grateful if you could hold off sending any personal emails to me until the 28th of May. Helen will answer all general queries, but I've asked her to send a generic "out of the office" reply to all my personal emails. Thank you for your understanding.

Right then ... off to Canada! Speak soon!

All the best,

Iain

PS: I’ve recently added an Extreme Impact Out-Take to the blog (originally posted on you-tube by Shellie who filmed the units). It’s a classic and I hope it makes you giggle as much as it did us: www.blog.iainabernethy.com

I rank Geoff Thompson’s ability to inspire, motivate and challenge your mind up there with the likes of Tony Robins, Jim Rohn and Zig Zigglar. Incredible” - Ivan Rolls

The Elephant and the Twig is the missing link, the road map that shows you the way up life’s hills, where to find the fuel stops on the way and ultimately how to break the twig that is holding you back”  - Simon Glynn

Blurb: Have you ever heard the story of The Elephant and The Twig? In India they train obedience in young elephants (to stop them from escaping) by tying them to a huge immovable object, like a tree, when they are still very young. The tree is so large that no matter how hard the baby elephant pulls and tugs it cannot break free. This develops what is known as ‘learned helplessness’ in the creature. After trying so hard and for so long to break the hold, only to be thwarted time and again, it eventually believes that, no matter what it does, it cannot escape. Ultimately, as a fully-grown adult weighing several tons, they can tie it to a twig and it won’t escape, in fact it won’t even try.

Do you ever feel like this? That you are tied to an immovable object and can’t break free? That you couldn’t possibly give that presentation at work, that you would never be able to go it alone in business, or that you have to remain stuck in a social and lifestyle rut as there is no other alternative? Rubbish! This book shows you that, when it comes down to it, what ties you and prevents you from realising your potential is only a ‘twig’. Geoff Thompson, renowned martial artist and author of Watch My Back, guides you through the process of breaking the negative thinking that binds us all and helps you to take the plunge and properly take on life.

3 - Iain & Mike Liptrot get their pink belts!

At the recent seminar leading Mike Liptrot (a leading UK judo coach) and I conducted together we were awarded our pink belts by Karen and the other girls of Deeping Karate! If you'd like to see Mike and me in our pink belts, then please make a donation to the very worthwhile cause below! Doing so will take you to a webpage where you can see a number of UK martial artist expressing their "feminine side".

Mike and I have also decided to pass on our belts to two of those who have made a donation. We have both signed both belts and we hence we have two to give away. Who knows, this piece of very usual martial memorabilia may be worth something when we're dead ;-)

If you make a donation (no matter how much or how little) please send an email with your postal address to pinkbelt@iainabernethy.com (ensuring the subject is "Pink Belt") and when I get back from Canada I'll pick a couple out at random and post the belts to them. This is not a official "Raffle" or anything like that. Just Mike and me showing our appreciation to those kind enough to support this worthwhile cause.

4 - Crossing the Pond Trans-Atlantic Seminar!

Crossing the Pond Information!I have some very exiting news! Later this year myself, Kris Wilder, Marc “Animal” MacYoung, Alan Peasland and Nicolas Yang will be conducting two not to be missed two day events! The first one will take place in Seattle in the USA (14th and 15th of August) and the second event will take place a week later in Coventry in the UK (21st and 22nd of August).

I’m thrilled to be able to be able to meet up with members and visitors from the USA as well having the opportunity to teach as part of such an amazing line up!

Alan is a good friend who I have trained with and along side on numerous occasions. Kris is an amazing karateka and a really nice guy. He stayed with my family and I the first time he visited the UK and I look forward to spending some more time with him. I’ve been a big fan of Marc’s books for decades and, although we’ve swapped a few emails, we have yet to meet up in person and I am really looking forward to that. Nicolas Yang’s father’s books are also firm favourites of mine and I’m very excited to be able to meet and teach along side Nick.

I have to say this is an amazing mix of the “traditional” and the “reality based” (not that I see a difference between the two terms) and I’m sure serious martial artists in both the UK and USA will be very keen to be part of this history making event!
