From Pastor Sally Jo:

JUST CONNECT

Take out a sheet of paper. Outside of your immediate family, write down how many people know you by your name and how many people you know by name.

Are you pleased with your list? What can you do to add to your list?

In my work in poverty alleviation, the healthier people were the ones who when asked ā€œWho helps you to live well?ā€ had a long list that included the bus driver, barber, barista and Bible Study leader; it was after the broader community members being listed that the more obvious answers of providers were mentioned. Of course, realizing the number of people who know you by name and ask about your wellness, strengthens a person to develop one’s agency that gives one the confidence to add oneself to the list.

As we begin to get our footing in Hazelwood, our success shall be determined by how many people know us by name and add us to their list, and vice versa. The Hazelwood CafĆ© is a community trust point. The coffee shop recently began a promotion called the ā€œDrip Party Club," Hazelwood Cafe’s exclusive membership for coffee lovers! Enjoy unlimited drip coffee, where for a monthly fee one receives skip-the-line access, and monthly member perks.ā€ I was the first member of the club and happily refer to myself as ā€œThe Big Drip.ā€ It feels good to be known, called by my name, to say hello to others by their names. This developing partnership involves Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community providing items to their ā€œPack with a Purposeā€ donation drive.

The possibilities abound for in Hazelwood --- let’s get known and be known

HAPPENING AT HOT MET_AL

In God's Image

CELEBRATE PRIDE

Pittsburgh Pride

Sunday, June 1 @ Allegheny Commons Park West

Hot Metal is teaming up with LAMP (LGBTQIA+ Affirming Ministries of Pittsburgh) and there are two ways you can join the celebration:

  1. Volunteer at the LAMP table. We recommend signing up for a 3:30, 4:45, or 6:15 volunteer spot. (Signup Form) A group of us will get lunch together after our service and arrive at Pride by 3:30, please join in!

  2. Not the Sunday service type or hanging out in the diaspora? GREAT, we could use your help! LAMP will be marching in the parade at noon, which is hard to swing when you're a church. We'd love it if you would represent Hot Metal in the parade, line up on Liberty Avenue between 11th Street and 16th Street in The Strip before noon and look for the LAMP banner.

Hazelwood Pride
June 28 & 29
The celebration continues in our own neighborhood! We've got three fresh t-shirt designs for the occasion (or any occasion.) Order by Wednesday, June 18.

  • Saturday, June 28 @ 3-8 PM
Hazelwood Brew House (5007 Lytle St)
This will be an opportunity to meet neighbors and new friends, and let them know that Hot Metal is a place where they can find community and belonging.

  • Pride Service + Lunch
    Sunday, June 29 @ 10:30 AM
We'll be doing what we always do... singing about God's love for ALL, praying for each other, and loving every person who joins in. Stick around for the lunch after! If you're able to, bring along a side dish or dessert; Hot Metal will provide the main dish.

😜 SPRING PLAY DAY

Saturday, June 7 @ 2 PM

Hazel Grove Brewing (4609 Irvine St, Hazelwood)

Gone are the days of needing a Spring Work Day to upkeep our building, so let's celebrate this new freedom with a day of nothing but play! We'll meet on the patio of Hazel Grove Brewing for yard games, board games, and fun with friends. Hazel Grove has nonalcoholic options on tap like root beer and Jackworth Ginger Beer, along with brews for grownups too.
