Subject: Curio Liturgy : Week One

01

Hello Everyone!

I am very excited to offer the first installment of Curio: A Liturgy For the Lean.

Here, you will find two documents. One is Instructions for how to use the liturgy, and some more information on what it includes. The second is the liturgy for Week #1

The theme of this week is “The Turning.” As the weather outside begins to shift, we may start to feel a shift inside of ourselves as well. At some point in our lives, we have all felt a turning of some kind - broken relationships, or new jobs, or transitions, or heartache - and this turning has forced us to shed our old skin and become something new. This turning can be difficult and yet - just like the death of the leaves outside brings about immense beauty - our inner deaths and dying can also bring about something new and beautiful that was buried deep within. It is my hope that as we become present with the turnings of our lives, we are able to see the beauty that often results from death.

Once again, thank you! I am excited to offer this liturgy as a chance for all of us to embrace - rather than reject - the turning and the dying and the waiting. May we learn to embrace paradox and as Henri Nouwen says “live the questions,” the hard questions, instead of running from them or rushing to resolve them. May we be present and realistic; may we have eyes to see and ears to hear. And may we always work for truth, beauty, and the common good.

As you engage with the liturgy this week, please feel free to reach out to me with any thoughts, questions, suggestions, or things you’d like to discuss - I’d love to hear from you! I can be reached at nathan.rosswog@gmail.com or (412) 477-2841.

Be well,

-Nathan
