Signs and symbols matter.


In the not too distant past, faith communities flying rainbow flags, having gender neutral bathrooms, celebrating same sex marriage, tabling and marching in PRIDE events — were non-existent, not seen nor heard nor evidenced here in Southwestern PA.


Blessed be, how times have changed and thanks be to all who were and remain the agents of positive, affirming change.


I still remember the impact of attending worship at a congregation that handed out rainbow pins, flew a rainbow flag and celebrated as part of the joys of the congregation the marriage of two men or two women. Though just visiting that Sunday….it mattered to be seen and named and celebrated.


This June, the Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community has bookended the month with PRIDE Celebrations on the first and last Sundays.

  • This weekend, we will have a welcoming and affirming presence at the first ever Hazelwood PRIDE Event: Saturday, June 28, 3 pm - 8 pm at Hazelwood Brew House, 5007 Lytle Street. If available, please sign-up for a volunteer slot.

  • On Sunday, June 29 at our 10:30 am Worship Service we will have the full band and our standard great music, prayers to carry and celebrate all and a strong message of God’s All-Inclusive Love.

  • Following worship, we will have a pot-luck lunch. Hot Metal is providing the main course and beverage — bring a dish to share and invite a friend or two….or three….and JOIN US!

At Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, it is our lives and our expressions of who we are and our experiences of God’s grace that are the best witness of God’s Love for ALL!

This will be an opportunity to meet neighbors and new friends, and let them know that Hot Metal is a place where they can find community and belonging. If you ordered t-shirts, you can pick them up at either event, or get ahold of us to make arrangements.

    The Brew House is hosting a weekend of vendors, performances, DJs, and more, celebrating love in the Hazelwood Community. Hot Metal will have a table... we'll maybe have a signup sheet soon. Probably. Almost definitely.

  • Pride Service + Lunch
    Sunday, June 29 @ 10:30 AM
    Spartan Community Center of Hazelwood (134 E Elizabeth St)
    We'll be doing what we always do... singing about God's love for ALL, praying for each other, and loving every person who joins in. Stick around for the lunch after! If you're able to, bring along a side dish or dessert; Hot Metal will provide the main dish.


💦 KEEP NEIGHBORS HYDRATED

All Summer Long
Fishes & Loaves Cooperative Ministries (131 E Elizabeth St)

With the summer heat, we're keeping the Free Food Fridge stocked all summer for neighbors in need of hydration. Volunteer to restock the fridge with water, gatorade, or cool treats like popsicles and fruit. Donations can be dropped off directly to the fridge on the porch of Fishes & Loaves, or brought to a Sunday service.

👩‍🍳 KIDS COMMUNION CO-COP

Kiddos love to help serve communion, and we love their enthusiasm! Pastor Sally Jo will be holding a special gathering with Hot Metal Kids to talk about the meaning of communion and to bake our communion bread together. Parents are welcome to drop-off with Pastor Sally Jo & Darlene, and to go enjoy the free time; there are lots of brunch options close by! More details coming soon.



🍲 VOLUNTEER AT HAZELWOOD FOOD PANTRY

First Saturdays, Beginning August 9
9:30-11:30 AM @Spartan Community Center of Hazelwood

For years, Fishes & Loaves Cooperative Ministries has been providing free groceries to Hazelwood neighbors in the very space we worship in, and Hot Metallers are invited to lend a helping hand once a month. (With the July 4th holiday schedule changes, we recommend jumping in starting in August.) No RSVP is needed, just arrive ready to assist neighbors with love and dignity.
