A Taste Of What To Expect At Future Food Asia 2022

Will China Lead The World With "Future Foods"?

For the first time ever, China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has included cultivated meat and other “future foods” or “未来食品”  in its five-year plan. As one of the largest consumers of meat and eggs in the world, this could be an indicator of what’s to come.

Foodtech media was quick to drum up excitement following the release of this five-year plan. While it is certainly promising to the alternative protein industry, should we be positioning this report as groundbreaking policy change? In fact, the report doesn’t necessarily call for the addition of these products to the market, but rather to encourage research into new, food-related technologies - with cultured meat being one of them.

It is still early to say what the trajectory of China will be, but one thing is for sure – the Future of Food will be written with China, and those who will win over the minds and stomachs of China’s mainstream consumers.

What does it mean for investors? More to come this June at Future Food Asia 2022.

Not Another Manel

We have always been conscious of the diversity of speakers and through our best efforts we are proud to share that at the last event 40% of our speakers and panelists were women. And while we would like to pat our backs for the effort – we are not there yet.

So, we are seeking the support of this community to recommend to us women in your network whose opinions will resonate with the hope that our platform will continue to accelerate innovation for a more sustainable, equitable and nutritious food system. Speakers (ideally) from APAC whose work in the field of  food and agriculture is reshaping food systems around the world.

Not because its approaching International Women’s Day and not because it’s the right thing to do. But because there are exceptional women who must have their voices heard. And we have the stage for them.

*Manel – for the uninitiated is the term for a panel of experts or participants that consists of men only.
