A Story of Permission to Rescue

In our last Newsletter a few weeks ago, we explained how, at the end of each year at FFGW, we write and mail a letter - holiday greetings, of course, but also a story - a story that best represents our values at FFGW, a story that shows how your generous support enables us to be compassionate at a level that lets us reach beyond just saving the "easy" cats.  This year's story was about mom Serafina (and 12 unexpected cats!) and about quite a few very dedicated volunteers, and about great medical care that your donations gave us the permission to provide.

If you didn't receive our paper letter, and missed it in our last e-newsletter, you can still read it HERE.

Our story was about how a community rallied to help cats in need, but it was also about that permission given by your donations, permission to spend the funds needed to provide necessary care.

The need for rescue never sleeps, and we wanted to let you know that, with your continued permission through generous donations, we have continued to provide the critical care that our rescues need.

A rural area in southwestern Virginia was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Handsome Njord was found in a tumbled-over cage full of water at the bottom of a hill.

Despite an injured, twisted paw, Njord was affectionate and friendly - and in need of help.

A tech at one of our partner vets fostered him, and kept watch over him as our vets assessed whether he could have a normal, pain-free life with his paw as it was. Despite his fabulous attitude, he started to chew and pull his fur, and we believe that was a pain response. Our vet determined that Njord's joints were swelling and causing a shift down his back when he would compensate.

Last week, our vet removed that leg and feels he will thrive with that gone. If you've ever had a tri-pawed cat, you know that they get around as if nothing happened. We owed Njord a pain-free life - and had permission to perform the surgery allowing that life for him, thanks to you!

Njord is now recovering, safe in a foster home, and hopes that the new year will bring a new, permanent home where he can run and jump and love.

I Feel Like Something Chewy!

Actually, not that chewy, but "Chewy"!

www.chewy.com is a pet product company specializing in home delivery of all things pet-related.

FFGW has a "wish list"  which you can find here:

Any products you select from our wish list will be delivered directly to us for use at our adoption center at PetSmart and by our fosters!

Thanks to everyone who has donated food, treats, litter, beds, toys...  Chewy's platform doesn't allow us to see the names of our generous donors, but please know that your support is very much appreciated!  And if you drop us a line and let us know when you donate something, we'll be more than happy to send our thanks!

Angel/Lela Butternut Miss Marbles

Christmas Purrrty Crashers!

These beautiful kitties are at Just Cats Clinic in our adoption center/boarding center. They don't want to spend Christmas week all alone in cages! They’re all very sweet cats and are ready for their forever homes.

Angel and Lela can share a guest room. They get along wonderfully. Angel is a medium bobtail darling; Lela is a fun and playful calico girl.

Even though Butternut looks like the biggest sad sack ever, he adores laps, laps, and more laps. He loves other cats and is an all-around love bug with holiday spirit!

Miss Marbles is a petite little thing and won’t each much Christmas dinner!:)

She’s easy going as well and might even be able to share a space with Butternut. They stick their paws out to touch each other in their cages.

Could any be your guests so that they don't spend the holiday alone?

(And if you can't help with short-term lodging now... perhaps you can lend a paw over the New Year's holiday next week?)

Please reply to Brittany@ffgw.org if you can help any of these cuties!
