Dear Families,

This month’s message comes not from a podium or a stage, but from a make-shift corral in Texas. As hundreds at the 2018 Family Camp watched attentively, Dr. Lew Sterrett, master trainer and teacher, led an unbroken young horse through obstacles around a corral, sharing life-changing principles that benefit parents and their ongoing relationship in training their children.

Dr. Sterrett stated, “Faith is a muscle—it grows by opposition and repetition.” But as he presented obstacles and lessons to his horse, he shared, “I do not train people, children or horses. I set boundaries on myself so those individuals have the ability to make better choices.” He continued, “One of the greatest fears all parents have is that, someday, their children will be out of their area of influence.” Then, with all still watching, Dr. Sterrett gently guided his horse, repeatedly helping the horse to respond well to obstacles a horse is uncomfortable with, building pillars of trust into his horse's life. He summarized, “[In training], faith must always be based on truth - absolutes that do not change: a God Who is trustworthy, a parent who is always present, a reward that is always guaranteed.”

Watch the video to see how these applicable actions and principles for our own lives are demonstrated in the corral. And, if your family is craving good teaching and rich fellowship combined with fun and memorable activities, join us for this year’s Family Camp, October 12-18, 2019.
