The Missing Peace – Linda Simpson St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray, England, built in the 1100's was truly majestic. Huge stone arches soared to the sky, while colours streamed in from glorious stained glass windows. I remember a magnificent gleaming golden eagle which supported a huge Bible on outstretched wings. When everyone was singing, I felt in my little nine-year-old heart as if angels were joining in and “God” certainly was present. These memories returned some thirty-seven years later. Married with three children, we had emigrated to Australia and were renting an old cottage on a farm in a small Victorian country town. My husband worked hard, the wages were low, but we were mostly happy. However, despite many attempts to correct it with work and hobbies, I felt in my heart as if something was missing. When an invitation came to my brother's wedding in Canada, I was devastated because I knew there was no way we could afford to go. I flung myself on the bed and let heart-rending sobs fill my pillow. Suddenly, it felt like a giant hand stroked my back over and over. I remembered “God!” Memories of times in St Mary's flooded back and prompted me to seek Him. I joined a local Bible study, discovered His goodness, and asked for His forgiveness. Jesus peace came into my life, and my heart suddenly felt complete. Whatever happens, good or bad, I know for certain He is with me. He has proved faithful for nearly 40 years. He is waiting to 'complete' your heart too. Why not ask Him now? Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
