| | | Are We Being Knowledgeable AND Wise? Evelyn Alexander
When my eldest was still a teen, I explained to him in simple terms the difference between knowledge and wisdom: “Knowledge is knowing things, and wisdom is knowing how to use that knowledge well.” I pointed out that we could be the most knowledgeable person in the world yet still be the most foolish if we don’t know how to wisely apply what we’ve learned.
I’ve come to see the same principle applies to our relationship with God and the Bible. We can learn about them yet fail to wisely practice His will as revealed in His Word.
The wise person, then, is a willing student who can rightly discern God’s truth, come to know God the Father through Jesus His Son, and understand why Jesus came to live and die among us. They also seek to know with certainty what His will is for their life. It’s all found in His Word, the Bible.
Jesus told a powerful story in Matthew 7:21-24 that drives this truth home. Read it for yourself and reflect on it deeply, for it’s critical that we each gain knowledge of the Father’s will for our personal lives.
In this story, Jesus described people who will stand at the gates of heaven, confident they deserve entry because of the wonderful works they believe they’ve done for Him. Imagine their shock when they hear the words, “Go away. I never knew you.” They had convinced themselves their goodness and good works earned them a place in heaven. Yet, they were denied entry because they were foolish and “did not do the will of the Father.”
All their goodness was meaningless to God because they did not follow His will, which matters most. We must, therefore, study God’s Word diligently to become both knowledgeable and wise, learning, understanding, and living out His will to be truly blessed.

The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
