Subject: Read this if you struggle to write for more than 30 minutes

If you struggle to write for more than 30 minutes this is for you.

While you might just feel distracted, not being able to write for long periods causes huge problems, forcing you to rush work, miss deadlines and ultimately fail to deliver results.

And here's the thing...

It's not your fault.

Attention spans have decreased from 12 to 8 seconds and the average human can only focus on one screen for 47 seconds (down from 2 and a half minutes in 2004)

This huge decrease has been linked to social media, with algorithms flooding your brain with cheap dopamine, making it harder for you to focus.

These algorithms are designed to be as addictive as possible, which can make getting deep work done feel impossible.

Luckily, you can reclaim your focus in about 7 days.

How exactly?

It all comes down to your morning routine.

You see, the average person will immediately reach for their phone when they wake up.

They check social media and the dopamine high begins.

This causes mid-morning crashes and leads to bad decision making throughout the day.

Instead, you want to slowly build your dopamine by completing tasks.

For me this looks like the following:

> Wake up and make my bed

> Drink 1 liter of water

> Exercise for 45 to 60 minutes

I use my phone for music while I exercise, but avoid social media altogether for the first hour of the day.

When I do this it becomes easy to move from one task to the next and write for hours at a time.

Once I've completed at least one deep writing session I'll give myself permission to check social media.

Scientific studies are now showing that you can restore your focus in just 7 days by cutting out early morning social media use.

Other tips I'd suggest are:

> Put your phone in another room

> Download apps that lock social media (such as Opal)

> Give yourself allocated time slots to check your social media

These habits make writing much easier and a strong morning routine without social media can put you miles ahead of the competition.

Don't let social media control you.

Take control today and you'll see your productivity rocket.

Have a great week,
