Discovery First: Why the Map Has to Come Before the Migration

Before any AI tool touches a legacy codebase, someone needs to build the map. "Discovery First: Why the Map Has to Come Before the Migration" makes the case that compiler-level static analysis is the prerequisite step that AI-assisted modernization programs keep skipping, and examines what happens in a COBOL or RPG environment when they do.

Conference

Early Bird Pricing Expires June 30th

The 15th CA 2E / CA Plex Worldwide Conference comes to Nashville, Tennessee this August 31st through September 2nd, and for senior IT leaders managing legacy modernization programs, the program this year is worth paying attention to.

Heads Up

More Power Systems Price Hikes, This Time They Are “Directional”

If the business case for modernization still feels theoretical in your organization, Timothy Prickett Morgan at IT Jungle has some numbers that will sharpen the conversation.

IBM has been hiking Power Systems hardware prices monthly since April — and the July 1 increases are substantial: flash storage up as much as 185% on some configurations, Power Servers up 17%, tape drives up 40%. Power10 machines leave the IBM catalog entirely on July 31.

For IBM i shops running modernization programs, the economics of staying on aging hardware just changed materially. The cost of doing nothing isn't what it was six months ago.
