The hidden drag, quantified: Technical debt's penalty on value and growth

Deloitte ran a five-year simulation comparing two S&P 500 companies starting from the same baseline. The one that prioritized infrastructure modernization reduced its technical debt by 18% over five years. The one that improved data maturity saw more than half its trapped technology value unlocked by year five. 


The finding is worth sitting with: the most direct path to growth isn't deploying new technology. It's recovering the value of what you've already got.
