Subject: November is Core Month at Boomerang!

November is Core Month at Boomerang!
We have so many great workshops this month that we wanted to get this newsletter out to you a bit early. Get your calendar out and start planning!

When we talk about "the core" it's more than just your abs. Your core includes your diaphragm, your pelvic floor, your back and abdominal muscles, your breathing, your hips and your shoulders!

Core strength, true strength, is not just about a sexy six pack (sorry!). A healthy core can release as well as contract. It engages reflexively when it is needed. It co-ordinates smoothly with your breath and with your pelvic floor.

Your core is implicated in your gait, your mobility, your strength and your pelvic floor function. And there's something to help you almost every weekend, in addition to your regular classes!

Have a safe and happy Halloween as you celebrate your spectacular skeleton and all the miraculous muscles that move it!

Petra is offering a pre-registered, 6 week course focused on Walking Well:

They say that walking is the best exercise, and I say that you can make it even better by learning walking skills! This class is focused entirely on gait - basics, shoe transitions, dealing with hills, building strength and range - and we'll get out of the studio for real life practice if the weather permits. Better walking is a key to improving bone density, cardiovascular health, and the state of your joints and pelvic floor, just for a start. There will be (light) daily homework and some readings and some serious hip strength.
This pre-registered session will build strengths and skills as you progress through the weeks!

6 week session: $120 (+HST)
November 4 to December 9, 9:00 am-10:00 am.

This workshop will focus on how to improve core strength, focusing on the synergy between the core 4 muscles. You will learn which exercises actually can put strain on the 'core 4' particularly the pelvic floor and whether your core is functioning properly. You will then learn the Hypopressive series and practice it.

Although the Hypopressive method was  originally designed when looking at women's pelvic floors postnatally, the method is also now being used for athletes and models! Through practicing this method you learn to breathe more effectively, hence improving your VO2 max. You also tone your abdominal wall and reduce your waist line!

This method helps you expand your breath, lengthen your spine and calm your mind. It helps with pelvic floor dysfunction, postural problems, back issues and breathing problems. Hypopressives help the 'core 4' connect and work in synergy with each other. if you have had a baby in the last 3 years and have a diastasis recti this method can help reduce it.

Some women have hyper tonic pelvic floors and find that when they jump, lift weights or even run that they suffer from some form of incontinence. The Hypopressive method can help you release your pelvic floor at rest( hence emptying your bladder properly).

There are women that have had a grade 3/4 prolapse and have been advised that they need surgery. By practicing the Hypopressive method they have managed to get rid of their prolapse!

Men also benefit from learning this technique. As they get older their prostate enlarges causing more pressure on the pelvic floor. They too need to take care of their 'Core 4'. Learning the Hypopressive method of exercise can improve sexual function in both men and women.

The method takes practice, so please don't expect to get it straight away. It is an easy method to remember, and after my 2 hour workshop, you will have enough knowledge and handouts to practice at home.
