Back in 1995, when I did my very first bodybuilding competition, I was introduced to a hardcore "pre-contest cutting diet."
Basically...
Boiled chicken & Broccoli. An hour of fasted cardio every morning. Plus 2 hours of weight training - 6 days a week.
And you know what?
👉 It worked.
I got leaner than I ever had before!
But here's the part nobody talks about...
Just because something works doesn't mean it's a good idea.
Because that approach left me feeling miserable - and it was completely unsustainable.
I was running on pure willpower.
And willpower always runs out.
I don't care how motivated you are right now...
If you're relying on willpower alone, it's only a matter of time before things fall apart.
Life gets busy. Stress builds. Motivation fades.
Meanwhile...
Hunger increases. Cravings get stronger. Temptation is everywhere.
And eventually, you hit your breaking point and say:
👉 "Screw it. This isn't worth it."
And that's when the binge happens.
It might start small...
But then it snowballs.
Chips. Ice cream. Cookies. Peanut butter straight from the jar. Pizza orders. Drive-thru runs. Late-night snacking.
Eating anything and everything you can get your hands on.
I know this because I've been there myself... more times than I care to admit.
And this is exactly how the crash dieting cycle traps people. |
| | Here's how it usually plays out:
Monday rolls around - you're fired up and start a new diet.
A few weeks in... You feel restricted. You're hungry. Cravings kick in.
Eventually... you go off track.
Then comes the guilt.
You beat yourself up...
And that emotional spiral leads to even more overeating - because food becomes your short-term comfort.
Before you know it, you've spent weeks (or even months) stuck in that cycle...
Gaining back the weight you worked so hard to lose.
Until you finally say:
👉 "Alright... That's it I’ll start again on Monday."
...and the whole thing repeats.
Sound familiar?
