UW students have turned Schrödinger's cat on its head

A team of researchers from the University of Warsaw (UW) has developed an innovative method that allows the fractional Fourier transform of optical pulses to be performed using quantum memory. This achievement is unique in the world, as the team was the first to present an experimental implementation of the aforementioned transformation in such systems.

Two photon imaging of solitons

Researchers from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology have demonstrated stroboscopic two-photon imaging of soliton molecules using completely non-synchronised lasers, where wavelength and bandwidth constraints are much relaxed compared to conventional imaging techniques. Two-photon imaging allows the probe and the oscillator under test to operate at completely different wavelengths, making it possible to use the well-known near-infrared laser technology for high-speed studies of soliton molecules based on new laser sources.

PhotonHub Europe

PhotonHub Europe (PHE) is a Europe-wide support network for entrepreneurs who want to incorporate innovative photonic solutions into their products or processes. Supported by national PhotonHubs, the 36 top European technology centres offer information and training, business support, support in raising funding and a wide network of contacts - and above all the opportunity to experiment, test and develop technologies (including scaling up production). PhotonHub also comprehensively supports startups. However, the main part of its offer is high-end technology services, available at a very significant discount thanks to EU funding.

These services are available to all entities in the EU, with a special focus on SMEs. The PPTF is the Polish partner of PHE as the national photonics hub.

Photonic start-ups at Automatica

PhotonHub supports photonics startups in many ways - including by presenting their solutions to potential users. To this end, Photonics Day was organised at the recent Automatica trade fair in Munich, promoting photonic technologies to companies in the automation and industrial robotics industry. The highlight was the Photonica Pitch competition, allowing photonic startups from all over Europe - including Poland - to present their solutions to an international audience.
