This setup is an excellent way to give assistance as you shift more tension onto one arm / one side of your back as an intermediate step between regular pull-ups and the increased loading of one-arm pull-ups. You may be at a stage where you can get a fair number of regular pull-ups or chin-ups (bodyweight or even weighted).
