Subject: ADFF:NY starts next week!

October 5, 2023

We're often asked why ADFF doesn't give out awards like so many other festivals. Selection for our festival is very competitive. Every film was chosen with care and many wonderful films were turned away. In this way, we truly feel that every film selected to present at ADFF is a winner.

Some of our films are shown not only within an architecture and design context, but are lauded at festivals across the globe. Radical Landscapes premiered at DOC NYC last year. Skin of Glass was just awarded Best Documentary Feature at BARQ in Spain. Rehab (from rehab) is premiering at ADFF and we're sure it will go on to win awards at other festivals.

So it's time to get your tickets for ADFF:NY! For our Canadian audiences– tickets for ADFF:Toronto and ADFF:Vancouver will go on sale next week.

Radical Landscapes

10/12 @ 9:00pm

10/14 @ 6:00pm

2022 / 90 min / Switzerland

Director: Elettra Fiumi

Well received at film festivals around the world, Radical Landscapes is director Elettra Fiumi’s personal journey through scenery of the soul via an astonishing Florence and vibrant America. Following the death of visionary architect Fabrizio Fiumi, his daughter Elettra embarks on a quest to discover her father’s radical past. Her encounters reveal an unknown page of contemporary Florentine history, a world of utopian collages and gardens in nightclubs.

Co-presented by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York.

Skin of Glass (US Sneak Preview)

10/14 @ 3:00pm

2023 / 90 min / US

Director: Denise Zmekhol

When director Denise Zmekhol revisits the architectural masterpiece of her late father, a modernist skyscraper in São Paulo, Brazil, she discovers it is occupied by hundreds of unhoused people. The building is marked by controversy. Once a headquarters for the police force of a dictatorial government and later a site of anarchist artwork, it was most recently taken over by housing activists in an attempt to transform their city. Through the stories of people with a passionate connection to her father’s work, Zmekhol helps us understand the building as a reflection of Brazil’s political and economic turmoil over the last half century.

Rehab (from rehab) (US Premiere)

10/13 @ 9:15pm

10/14 @ 8:00pm

2023 / 86 min / France, Italy

Directors: Louise Lemione and Ila Beka

Renowned directors Louise Lemione and Ila Beka are back with another incredible story to tell. Through a series of vignettes of patients going through physical rehabilitation at Swiss Architects Herzog & De Meuron’s REHAB center in Basel, Rehab (from rehab) demonstrates how a building itself can contribute to patients’ recovery stories. From the start, the architects did not intend for REHAB to look or feel like a hospital. The resulting space is multifunctional, easy to use, and beautiful. By zooming in on this incredible project, Lemione and Beka show us how great architecture enriches the lives and work of the people within.
