Subject: ADFF ONLINE - E-1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea

June 5, 2025

During the pandemic, ADFF pivoted to launch ADFF:ONLINE, giving audiences a way to experience our programming from home. The virtual screenings were a great success. Since then, we’ve continued to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of online film, finding new ways to share ADFF content with our audience.

Now, we’re excited to introduce a new phase of ADFF:ONLINE—offering occasional online screenings with bonus content, available exclusively to ADFF viewers. The best way to stay informed about upcoming online screenings is by following us on Instagram, Facebook, and our newly launched YouTube channel, as well as reading our newsletters.

We’re kicking things off June 11 - 22, with the acclaimed film: E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea. Your screening includes a special Q&A with director Beatrice Minger and actor Natalie Radmall-Quirke, who portrays Eileen Gray in the film. Available online only in the US.

About the film

E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea had its world premiere in spring 2024 at the renowned Danish festival CPH:DOX, followed by its U.S. premiere at ADFF:NY 2024 in the fall and its Canadian premiere at ADFF:Toronto. While most ADFF films don’t receive a theatrical release, E.1027 broke that pattern. In May 2025, it opened at the IFC Center in New York for a limited one-week run—which was extended due to popular demand. The film also had theatrical releases that month in Los Angeles and London.

E-1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea

2024 / 90 min / Switzerland

Writer/Director Beatrice Minger

She built a house for herself. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a masterpiece. Irish designer Eileen Gray built a refuge on the Côte d‘Azur in 1929. Her first house is a discrete, avant-garde masterpiece. She named it E.1027, a cryptic marriage of her initials and those of Jean Badovici, with whom she built it. Le Corbusier, upon discovering the house, becomes intrigued and obsessed. He later covered the walls with murals and published photos of them. Gray described these paintings as vandalism and demanded restitution. He ignored her wishes and instead built his famous Cabanon directly behind E.1027.

ADFF:NY is pleased to announce a new partnership with Grohe.

As part of this collaboration, we will host a series of special screenings at the LIXIL Water Experience Center in New York’s Flatiron District.

The first event on June 10th will feature the documentary Beyond Zero, which tells the inspiring story of Ray Anderson, the visionary founder of Interface Carpets. In the 1990s, Anderson came to the realization that he didn’t want his company to be remembered as a “plunderer of the earth and a legal thief.” He committed to transforming Interface into an environmental leader—proving that it was possible to prioritize sustainability while maintaining strong profitability.

The screening will take place on June 10 at 6:00 PM at the LIXIL Water Experience Center in New York. Seating is limited, we encourage you to RSVP as soon as possible, while seats are still available.

Later this fall, we will continue the series with additional screenings. One will feature the film Strange & Familiar: Architecture on Fogo Island, followed by a conversation with Zita Cobb focusing on the themes of community and design. Another evening, we will present the film Modernism, Inc., with a discussion centered around the idea that "good design is good business."
