Buddha's Contribution to Humanity:

Perception and Conversation with the

Spiritual World During the Holy Nights and Year Ahead

Zoom Presentation by Lelan Harris

Hosted by Faust Branch

Saturday, December 28

7:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (UTC -8)

Rudolf Steiner tells us in Lecture 3 of According to Luke that:

Buddha’s primary mission was to convey to human beings knowledge of the forces that must flow out of the human soul itself. Buddha could not speak only of the fruits of his own enlightenment, but he said to himself: "I must speak to men of what they can attain through the higher development of their own inner nature and of the faculties belonging to this epoch.”

During the Holy Nights the spiritual world steps back, waits, and listens for us to speak our highest soul wishes. During the year to follow, the spiritual world then acts to support the manifestation of our highest soul wishes. This 'manifestation conversation' with the spiritual world occurs with every incarnated human being around the world whether or not the individual human is conscious of it.

To become conscious of our 'speaking to the Stars' is an example of "what we can attain through higher development and the faculties belonging to this epoch". Through higher development of our inner nature and the faculties belonging to this epoch, we learn to initiate and develop continuous perception, conversation, and partnership with the spiritual world as part of becoming truly human, Beings of Freedom and Love.

Rudolf Steiner continues in Lecture 3 of According to Luke:

The Luke Gospel contains the spiritual substance of Buddhism in a form accessible to all human souls who are receptive to the most essential human ideas and concepts.... the hard-earned spiritual accomplishments of Buddhism, which now flow from the Luke Gospel, enhanced or raised to a higher level....

Although we encounter Buddhism in its purest, truest form in the Luke Gospel, it is enhanced and elevated by the transformation of love into action. This aspect of Christianity, or of Buddhism enhanced by Christianity, is best described by the warmhearted author of the Luke Gospel.

Steiner addresses the genealogy and childhood of Jesus in the Matthew and Luke Gospels, unveiling for the first time the mystery of the two Jesus children. He also describes the workings of Zarathustra, and the relation between the Jesus child and Buddha.

This book was originally titled The Gospel of St. Luke.

From December 26 through January 6, there is a presentation each evening during the festival celebration of the Holy Nights. Some are in person, but all are welcome to participate in the Zoom gatherings. Most of the presentations will focus on Rudolf Steiner's According to Luke, but there will be two special presentations, one on New Year's Eve and the other on January 6, Epiphany. Detailed information about these events can be accessed on the website of the Sacramento Faust Branch of the American Anthroposophical Association website:

Easter is resurrection light

arising out of tomb darkness.

St. John's is bonfire conflagration

penetrating through dark nights of the soul.

Michaelmas is lantern fire

journeying into darkness.

Christmas Holy Nights is candle flame of soul

held aloft for those lost in darkness.

Donations welcomed to defray the costs of these presentations.
