December 3, 2019 - Mark your calendar!

History of GivingTuesday

GivingTuesday was founded in 2012, and has inspired millions of people to give back to support the causes they believe in. Over $400 million was raised online in 2018 to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.

GivingTuesday’s CEO and co-founder Asha Curran said, “When GT launched in the US in 2012, we believed that technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral.” She continued, “We believed in the idea that people fundamentally want to give and to talk about giving; and that the social sector had the capacity to show more innovative leadership, creativity, and collaboration. People and organizations around the world proved us right. As we prepare for December 3, 2019, we’re energized and encouraged by the world’s generosity.”

Interview with Martee

Martee was introduced to Anthroposopy during the time her children attended a Waldorf school. Even though it was a time consuming drive to the school, she felt led by her spirit to enroll them there. One particular teacher helped further her study of Rudolf Steiner’s work. Martee is forever grateful.

Since 2008, her personal study includes reading many books and lectures by Steiner, participation in a local Anthroposophy book club, and daily meditations, such as The Calendar of the Soul.

Martee began taking classes at Rudolf Steiner College in 2012 and attended the Foundations of Anthroposophy classes taught by Brian Gray in the autumn of 2014. One of her frustrations at that time was driving an hour each way, because she couldn’t always make it to the classes due to weather and needs of her young children.

When Wise Cosmos began recording the lectures in 2015, she was very excited. Now she could watch a class online if she missed one. In fact, she has watched the entire Philosophy of Freedom lecture videos on YouTube! The accessibility has made a very real difference in her journey. To quote Martee, “The ability to take the classes regardless of circumstances was really life changing! It is huge! It is so amazing!”

This awesome aspect of what Wise Cosmos is doing showed up in the latest class, Parzival and the Star Wisdom of Wolfram von
Eschenbach. Martee identifies herself as a copious note-taker. Because the course was being recorded, she could just be in the moment, making eye contact with Brian Gray and the other session participants. She could be entirely present in class, then at home in her own time, she has access to the videos as many times as she wants. Now she can take those copious notes, probably with more detail than she could have taken them in class.

Martee summed up by saying, “Wise Cosmos creating and releasing the videos is the greatest gift to us. It is such a gift because you can review the class or take it over and over again. For example, Brian Gray’s lecture on “Compassion and Forgiveness.” I have sent it to other people because he weaves everything together in such a way you don’t have to be an Anthroposophist to benefit from it.”
The Exploring Anthroposophy Course, has so far reached 17 countries.  The Parzival and the Star Wisdom of Wolfram von Eschenbach course has reached 12 countries.  Looking forward into 2020, we are committed to recording and making available more videos of Master Teachers of Anthroposophy to people around the world.

With much anticipation,
Lelan
