Wondrous? Or Harmful? Your Stories
Heceta Head Lighthouse, 2022

“Return to hear your wondrous stories."
--from Yes, "Wondrous Stories"

Oh, how I love stories and all that ignites them. Our imaginations can't burn without fuel, and sometimes we starve our stories, preoccupied with taking care of people and things. We hold out for some other time when we can feed our wondrous stories.

Or maybe we tell ourselves the stories don't matter. No one's going to miss them if we don't create.

What's tragic is when we create layers of harmful thoughts about ourselves, often starting with the words, "I can't."

Instead of creating wondrous stories, we make what I call "storeys," floor after floor of dismal, towering high-rises which lock us in, compacting our dreams and limiting us to half-truths. I share these thoughts on the How to Be Human Podcast this week.

How do we burnish our imagination bright and believe in the stories of our creating? How do we take down the storeys that limit us as creative humans? It can be done as we spend time in supportive, truth-filled spaces like the powerful retreats I'm leading on the Oregon Coast this year.

I am thrilled to announce Write at the Light, Dec 2-4, 2022. It's filling up fast! You, beneath a lighthouse, writing at the Lighthouse Keeper's historic home where crashing waves meet cliffs, and sea pines bend inland as if to catch your words, listening to your wondrous stories.

Or maybe you'll create your own way of glowing with the beacon of creativity. Rise tall, turn, wink, send out your light and be a source of safety, beauty, and wonder for all the ships that pass your way.
