 Are You Doing the Work?
Or Are You Concerned with Being in Control?

"Just do your work. And if the world needs your work
it will come and get you. And if it doesn't, do your work anyway.
You can have fantasies about having control over the world,
but I know I can barely control my kitchen sink. That is the
grace I'm given. Because when one can control things, one is
limited to one's own vision." --Kiki Smith

Doing the work is easy. Trying to be in control is frustrating. I get caught up in expectations and shoulds, unsatisfied with what I'm making, what my pen is creating, or what my life is doing.

"No, no, no, you've got it all wrong," I tell the Dream Kid, that creative part of me. I don't have control over my creator instinct, but I forget this. "You're making a mistake here," I tell God and/or Her cohorts about what is happening in my world. I spend way too much energy griping and wishing and dissatisfied, when all I have to do is accept what shows up when I release my hand onto the page. And then: a more majestic vision emerges, authentic and awe-inspiring.

This becomes exponentially easier when in a nurturing environment, surrounded by encouraging voices. This is the environment I am crafting for you, together with your fellow Wildfire Writers. You don't have to be in control; all you have to do is show up.

Wildfire Writing Saturday is this coming Saturday!
A few seats are still available in this private workshop
which prompts you out the gate into fields of your imagination, using fiction
techniques and synergistic support to build your body of work - one surprise at a time. It's a fantastic chance to get new ideas and to generate writing.

Wildfire Master class, p.m., (private) runs roughly every other Thursday at 6:30 pm and has potential openings. This is a critique group for that phase in your writing life when you're ready to refine and revise, with feedback that helps you develop your project.
Let's talk if you think you might be a good fit.

Wildfire Women
(private) runs every Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. This class is about two and a half years old now, with a transformative group dynamic that changes with the seasons. It rarely has openings, but does now, because of summer schedules. Talk to me if you are interested.
