Subject: Christi Krug's Wildfire Writing

A Rock Solid New Beginning
“I needed all my life to hear what you just said.”
― Jessica L, responding to affirming feedback

My heart fills when a writer recognizes the truth, beauty, and power of her own words. Many of us have spent a lifetime listening to others tell us our writing is subpar, or that it isn't worth our time, or that we don't have talent, or that we'll never be successful.

When we succumb to these thoughts, we move further and further away from the joy and fulfillment our writing brings us. And we cheat the world of all we could give.

By contrast, here are five reasons your writing will succeed in 2022:

1) You are at the helm of your calendar. You can take advantage of a social distancing schedule like never before, and write and enroll in classes online.

2) You're on trend as a writer and reader. According to The Guardian, Penguin Random House, and Publisher's Weekly, there has been a marked surge in reading during the pandemic. Readers need you!

3) You're paying attention to what matters. Which is what more people are doing now, as demonstrated by one in four people who quit their jobs in 2021.
Many are rethinking what work means to them, how they are valued, and how they spend their time,” said Andrea Hsu of NPR.

4) Publishers are asking for your writing. Duotrope, one of the services I use, offers info on 7,609 fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art publishers, as well as agents. Thousands of magazines, anthologies, comics, literary quarterlies, publishing houses and more, need what you have inside you.

5) You're reading this newsletter. You care about your writing and you understand it doesn't take hours of random hoping and scattered effort, but rather, purposeful action. A class. A community. A weekly time slot or a yearly retreat. I'm excited to be presenting these offerings and know that something will fit you perfectly this year.

You and I must rise above the negative voices, develop our strengths, practice our craft, and honor our writing gifts. So many of us know in our hearts we are writers, but we've let this truth get lost in the lowlands of everyday life.

Climb with me to the mountaintop, and let's nestle here in the rocks and survey our world with eyes of wonder. This is the perfect moment. Let us see what has never been seen. Let us share this vision.
