Happy New Year From Wilbur Hot Springs!
Throughout the year, guests bestow their deepest wishes upon the wishing tree. All year tags hang proudly waiting to be freed. This past New Year's Eve, the community gathered for a small ceremony to honor and release the year's wishes in the only bonfire held. We shared, we smiled, we empathized, we sang, and we held space for all the joy and sorrow in the world. To everyone who made a wish in 2023, I sincerely thank you for your contribution, and hope your wish is fulfilled or coming into fruition. As someone who has had the honor of attending 3 of these ceremonies, I encourage anyone who visits Wilbur to stop at the wishing tree and contribute to this beautiful tradition.

Building Community
Historically, Wilbur has been a place of gathering and coming together in community. Starting with the natives long ago, people still come to our sacred grounds to find healing and connection. Part of our current mission is to help foster the growth of the many communities Wilbur holds space for.

As a part of these efforts, Adaline Lang has been appointed the Community Manager. She will be leading Wilbur’s community efforts and looks forward to working with the established and growing community leaders and members in an effort to reinvigorate the feeling of inclusion and belonging at Wilbur.

A large part of this is offering a variety of complimentary programing for guests through a volunteer trade program. These types of programs are the backbone of Wilbur and are what continue to keep it flourishing though the years. We hope to continue connecting with a variety of volunteers as we step into this new chapter of community and stewardship at Wilbur.

Land Stewardship
A new chapter of Land Stewardship is starting at Wilbur, under the leadership of Greg Liston. Projects will be centered around the Nature Preserve, with a focus on invasive species eradication, watershed restoration, and re-wilding with native plants and trees. You may also notice increased flora and fauna around the hotel and bathing areas as we work to continue adding native species to the surrounding beauty
.
We are currently working towards converting our steel building on the nature preserve into a true Stewardship Headquarters. This area will be an oasis of small scale projects to demonstrate the large scale projects being implemented across the preserve. This space will also hold a work camp zone for volunteers to stay at while donating their time, and an information board to inform guests about projects and opportunities.

With all of the work to be done, Volunteer Opportunities are guaranteed to be plentiful. If you're interested in getting your hands dirty, or just seeing what it's all about, we encourage you to join our volunteer list for future community outreach. The more the merrier, make sure to let your friends know too! We are looking for helping hands in many arenas, so let us know if you are interested and which skills you bring to the table. Looking to learn?
Each year Wilbur hosts a California Naturalist Course taught by our friends at Tuleyome, spanning April 14 -19, 2024 this year. Covering topics in geology, flora, fauna, and much more, this week long course helps students to slow down and connect with the intricacies of the world around them. Portions of the class are held on the Yoga Deck and plenty of field trips are taken on the Nature Preserve to put knowledge into action. The Naturalist Couse is a great way to become involved in Wilbur Community and Land Stewardship. Call or email our Guest Services team for further course details and book your stay.
