Flight Crew Application EXTENDED Through December 15!

The nationwide search for the 2024 Flight Crew is on! The Million Girls Moonshot is looking for out-of-school STEM learning champions ready to share their stories to join the Flight Crew.

The Flight Crew is a group of youth ambassadors promoting the value of afterschool and summer learning and equity in STEM for young people.

Girls, non-binary youth and youth outside of the identity of cis-gender male, ages 13-18, who have been inspired by their experiences in afterschool and summer STEM learning, and are ready to share their stories, are encouraged to apply no later than December 15, 2023. Apply today!

Meet our 2023 - 2024 Coastal Virginia Libraries STEM Learning Community of Practice

VPOST is proud to share, we are currently supporting libraries across Coastal Virginia in creating new informal STEM learning experiences for school-aged youth and their families. About 20 library staff come together, once per month for a community of practice where they learn and discuss practices that help them act in the role of community STEM educator. Through the program they will focus on STEM career exploration, and increase STEM fluency, while prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as family engagement. The community of practices deepens the public library system as a partner and stakeholder in the Coastal STEM Ecosystem. A portion of this program has been funded by the Virginia General Assembly through Virginia Penisula Community College and COVA STEM Hub. Additionally, the library staff will receive resources from the Million Girls Moonshot initiative. Check out our What's Happening page to stay up-to-date on this program!

Lego Contributes $1 Million to Support Play-Based Programming for Children!

Lego Group is granting a combined $1 million to several nonprofits in Greater Richmond, many of which are out-of-school time programs! This comes after the Lego announcement of a $1 billion factory in Chesterfield County. VPOST congratulates all of the awardees, especially Blue Sky Fund, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, and YMCA of Greater Richmond. To learn more about these grants, click here.

STEM Youth Ambassadors meet with Senator-Elect Pekarsky!

This month, our STEM Youth Ambassadors met with Senate-Elect Stella Pekarsky who shared her story as a former educator turned representative. Senate-elect Pekarsky was thrilled to hear from the Ambassadors about their journey as advocates and on the impact of out-of-school time STEM opportunities!
