Subject: In Memory of Congressman Gerry Connolly

The VPOST Board of Directors and staff were deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Gerald (Gerry) Connolly, a dedicated public servant whose decades-long career was defined by unwavering commitment to the people of Virginia. From his 13 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, including 5 years as Chairman, to his 16 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Connolly was a tireless advocate for education, infrastructure, public service, and inclusive communities.

His steadfast support for programs that uplift young people - ensuring access to education, mentorship, and civic engagement - leaves a lasting legacy. In Fairfax County, the collaborative partnership between the county government and the school division, developed under his leadership as Board Chairman in 2006, has built local capacity and leveraged resources to provide high-quality after-school supports and services for over 15,000 middle school students each week and has expanded learning summer learning opportunities. Since 2006, over 400,000 middle school students have benefited from this initiative. Congressman Connolly believed in empowering the next generation and investing in a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Our thoughts are with his family, staff, and all those who had the honor of working alongside him. Virginia has lost a true champion.
