POLICY NEWS
During his speech in the Parliament in Strasbourg on 14 March, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker advocated for doubling the seven-year spending on research from €77 billion to €160 billion after 2020 so that “the EU would become one of the world’s leading players in research and innovation”. 
During the 6th Conference of EIP-AHA held on 27-28 February, emphasis was placed on the future Commission Communication on Digital Transformation of Health and Care.
On 31 January, the EC published a proposal for a Regulation on Health Technology Assessment (HTA). Since then, the European Parliament’s Committees, which are going to be involved in the legislative process, have been appointing their rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs.
On 23 March, Digital Europe (organisation representing the digital technology industry in Europe) organised an event on “Healthcare 4.0: A new way of life”.
On 27 March, the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) signed two declarations with the European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA) and the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) respectively to join forces towards accelerating the digitalisation of the European industry.

New research from MultiSim’s academics based at Insigneo and Sheffield Children’s hospitals looks into the strength of children’s bones, which could help in the design of safer car seats.
STUDENT COMMITTEE
All VPHi student members bringing a poster to the VPH Summer will be considered for the VPHi Best Poster Award that consists in a 1.000 € grant for the participation to scientific conferences or workshop from September 2018 to December 2019.
