The VPH 2022 conference will address the issues related to

"Digital twins for personalized treatment development and clinical trials"

Organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and by the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, will focus on "Digital twins for personalized treatment development and clinical trials". More information on plenary speakers and call for abstracts will follow soon.

POLICY NEWS

- Public consultation for revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation
The European Commission opened the public consultation on the revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation in the form of a questionnaire.

- ENVI Committee adopts a report on the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe
The European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) adopted a Pharmaceutical Strategy.

- Webinar for Members of the European Parliament

On 7 October 2021 the Avicenna Alliance hosted a Members of European Parliament (MEP) webinar to talk about what in silico medicine is and why it matters. The VPHi Director Liesbet Geris gave a great presentation and answered all the outstanding questions. The goal of the webinar was to increase MEP understanding of in silico medicine.

- ICH guidelines "General Considerations for Clinical Studies" released
ICH (International Council For Harmonisation Of Technical Requirements For Pharmaceuticals For Human Use) recently released the final version of the ICH E8(R1). This is the first time they specifically mention "Modelling and simulations" as a source of evidence in an official guideline.

- VPHi General Assembly

As the governing body of the Institute, the General Assembly meets to take care of the official duties of the Institute as laid down in the statute. To fulfil this obligation, this year the General Assembly will be held in connection with the Board of Directors meeting on 5 Nov 2021 via teleconference.

- VPHi elections of the Board of Trustees: the call for candidates is now open

The mandate of the current members of the Board of Trustees will expire soon. All VPHi members in good standing are welcome to present a candidate for the upcoming elections.

- Introducing in silico medicine to the medical community of Greece

The new scientific, technological and progressively clinical domain of in silico medicine was introduced to the wider medical community of Greece by Prof. Stamatakos during the 6th Forum “Biosciences, Innovation, Technology and Cancer: From Prevention to Treatment.

- Vacancies in EMBL Barcelona

EMBL is looking for a theory-based new Group Leader in the area of Theoretical Approaches to Tissue Biology and Disease Modelling, and another in the area of Organoids and in vitro tissues.

- Save the date for 2022 VPHi Summer School
The 6th VPH Summer School will take place from the 23th to the 27th May 2022 in Barcelona. The thematic will be “Models & Simulations for highly multifactorial disorders.

- Young Researchers Workshop in Mathematical and Numerical Cardiac Modeling

On the of 14th December 2021 at Pavia University. The aim is to gather PhD students and postdocs working in the field of computational electrocardiology, in order to create a network of young researchers in this emerging field.

- The 12 Labours seminar series by Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI)

Series kick off at 12-1pm (NZDT), 3rd November 2021 featuring Prof. Peter Hunter. He will present an overview of the 12 Labours project and multiscale modelling.

- 2021 EASYM Academic Session & General Assembly
9 November 2021 at 4:30 pm (CET). The training program will run with a one-hour academic session followed by the General Assembly at 5:30 pm

- ESB webinar: How Simpleware software processes patient-specific anatomies in orthopedics
1 December 2021– 17:00 – 18:00 CET. Conducted by Dr. Thomas Spirka
