New MI Focused Lunch & Learn Added!

You have asked for more opportunities to practice your Motivational Interviewing skills as they relate to SMART meetings and we heard you!

Starting on Monday, December 4, 2023, we will hold a weekly Lunch & Learn sessions focused on practicing your MI skills. This is an opportunity for trained facilitators and those in training to come together and enhance their MI skills in a supportive environment. There will be two opportunities: 11 AM or 12 PM ET. Come to one or come to both. In both sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into various Motivational Interviewing techniques and strategies through different scenarios and activities. This is a valuable MI practice opportunity for all.

 Holiday Meeting Cancellations!

If your meeting will be affected by any of the upcoming holidays, please take a few moments to post a cancel note to your meeting listing. You can find instructions, including a helpful video, on the Register or Update Your Meeting page in VolunteerHQ.

When You Decide to End Your Meeting

Changes in responsibilities at work or home, relocating, or focusing on your lifestyle balance are just some of the reasons that you may decide to stop facilitating your SMART Recovery meeting. We want you to do what is best for you and we want to help you make sure the meeting is available for the participants who have come to depend on the meeting being there.

Here are some ways that we can work together to make sure the meeting remains accessible in your absence.

  • Talk to the regulars in your meeting to see if anyone has completed facilitator training and would like to take the meeting over.

  • If you have a regular who isn't trained and would like to be, let us know. We can work with them to get a scholarship if needed and keep the meeting open while they complete the training.

  • If there is nobody in your group that can take over as the facilitator, reach out to VolunteerHQ as soon as possible. We may be able to find a facilitator in the area that is willing to take on an established meeting. If the meeting is an online meeting, we can ask facilitators from across the country to help fill in until a more permanent replacement can be found.

New Partner Space on The Phoenix

Smart Recovery is participating in a pilot project with The Phoenix, a free sober active community for those in recovery and their allies, to introduce our program to even more people in recovery. As part of this pilot, The Phoenix has created a Partner Space for SMART Recovery where folks can learn about us and attend one of our National Meetings.

To access the SMART Recovery Partner Space, click HERE.

If you already have The Phoenix Mobile App you will be directed to SMART's Partner Space and can then click “join” to join the Partner Space. From there, you can view upcoming events and engage with the community.

If you do not have The Phoenix Mobile App you will be asked to create an account, verify your email, complete the onboarding questions, and then you will be redirected to our Partner Space where they can view upcoming events and engage with the community.

We recognize that The Phoenix will not be for every SMART participant, as there is a sobriety requirement. However, we also believe that it will be a great tool for building a balanced life for those who have chosen an abstinence goal.
