Subject: VolunteerCONNECTION - June 2025

Hi Volunteers!

Welcome to the June edition of Volunteer Connection! My name is Gus Curran and I’m your guest editor this month. Melina is on vacation.

I’ll take this opportunity to say thank you to all the volunteers who have provided feedback on the new 4-Point Facilitator Training. The results of the post-course survey are encouraging. 96% of learners report that they are very satisfied or satisfied with the course!

Next up is the Family and Friends Facilitator Training, coming in July. This is a completely redesigned, standalone training course for folks who would like to learn about the SMART Family & Friends program and potentially start a meeting.  If you would like to help us test the course when it’s ready, please fill out this form. The first 30 to complete the form will get early access to the course and have a chance to provide valuable feedback prior to launch.

Watch your email for an invitation to our Town Hall celebrating the release of the new Family and Friends Handbook, also launching in July.

I do hope you had a great month, whether you celebrated Juneteenth, Pride Month, the official start of summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) all the above, or something else!

Reminders

Help Keep Our Meeting List Up to Date

Keeping SMART Recovery’s meeting list accurate is essential to helping participants find the support they need — and we need your help!

We regularly review all meetings and reach out when no updates have been made in the past 12 months. If you facilitate a SMART Recovery meeting, please take a moment to confirm your meeting details:

👉 Use the form

👉 Or email us at VolunteerHQ@smartrecovery.org

✅ Why It Matters:

  • Participants can find support more easily — without frustration

  • Our directory reflects only active, available meetings

  • We can remove or update listings as needed to keep everything current

✔️ Still facilitating? Let us know and confirm your meeting details.

✔️ No longer facilitating? Please tell us so we can update our records.

Thank you for helping us keep SMART Recovery’s resources accurate, welcoming, and easy to access for all.

In case you missed it...

Sarah Laurel provided a passionate presentation at the recent SMART Conference. In case you weren't able to be there, you can hear her incredible story from a recent SMART Recovery podcast!

Opportunities

Help Expand National SMART Meetings

We’re working to grow our national meeting offerings so that more participants across time zones can access the support they need, when they need it.

If you’re a trained facilitator for either 4-Point or Family & Friends, and you’re interested in hosting or co-facilitating a national SMART meeting, we’d love to hear from you!

Email Melina Gilbert at mgilbert@smartrecovery.org to learn more or express your interest.

Together, we can make SMART Recovery more accessible to people across the country.

Submit Your Group Donations
to SMART Recovery

Your group donations to SMART Recovery help empower individuals nationwide with tools and communities to reduce or resolve any addictive behavior. After you've covered any local rent or supply expenses, please send the surplus to the National Office. These funds are important to our ongoing support of meetings and volunteers nationally.
