Hello Friend,

I regularly am surprised at the vast array of holistic remedies that seem to be seldom mentioned in the 'conventional' press.

Recently I was researching holistic diabetes options, and came upon this 'new' treatment, which is beneficial for many of our pet's health conditions.

------------------------
Aloe Vera Leaf Gel.
------------------------

A scientific review of the plant upheld virtually all of the claims.

It is a wonderful anti-inflammatory for the skin, as well as being used for diabetes, cancer, and being anti-bacterial.

And you could be using it to treat a variety of your dog or cat's health problems.

Diabetes
--------------

As detailed on the website diabetes-guide.org, “A new 5 year study done in India on 5,000 patients found that patients who took aloe [vera] had a significant reduction in fasting blood sugar levels.”

Aloe vera diabetes dosage - Normally suggested dosage for the treatment of diabetes is 1/2 teaspoon of aloe juice per 10lbs daily.

--------------------
Skin disorders
--------------------

This is according to webmd:

Most people use aloe gel topically, as a remedy for skin conditions including burns, sunburn, frostbite, psoriasis, and cold sores. Some people also use aloe gel to help surgical wounds and bedsores heal faster. There is some science supporting these uses. Some chemicals in aloe gel seem to be able to increase circulation in the tiny blood vessels in the skin, as well as kill bacteria. Together, these effects suggest that aloe gel might be effective in speeding wound healing.

-------------------------
Cancer
-------------------------

Aloe vera boosts immune function and fights cancer.

Scientific research shows strong immunomodulatory and antitumour properties for aloe vera polysaccharides. That means the gel helps boosts immune system function while destroying cancer tumors.

One study published in International Immunopharmacology (1995) showed that aloe vera polysaccharides exhibited potent macrophage-activating activities including producing increased volumes of nitric oxide (which has antitumor potential).

P.S. I have used Aloe for years topically, and seen it do some pretty amazing things for wound healing. Orally it also has some pretty impressive benefits, especially helping to lower blood sugar in diabetics.

I would try it on my own dog/cat if they were diabetic.

I am definitely impressed with its immune supportive properties, hence it is part of my supplement.

P.P.S. This is a summary of the review:

Aloe vera leaf gel: a review update.
Reynolds T, Dweck AC.

Research since the 1986 review has largely upheld the therapeutic claims made in the earlier papers and indeed extended them into other areas.

Treatment of inflammation is still the key effect for most types of healing but it is now realized that this is a complex process and that many of its constituent processes may be addressed in different ways by different gel components. A common theme running though much recent research is the immunomodulatory properties of the gel polysaccharides, especially the acetylated mannans from
Aloe vera, which are now a proprietary substance covered by many patents. There have also been, however, persistent reports of active glycoprotein fractions from both Aloe vera and Aloe arborescens. There are also cautionary investigations warning of possible allergic effects on some patients.

Reports also describe antidiabetic, anticancer and antibiotic activities, so we may expect to see a widening use of aloe gel. Several reputable suppliers produce a stabilized aloe gel for use as itself or in formulations and there may be moves towards isolating and eventually providing verified active ingredients in dosable quantities.
